Kids grow up. They get out on their own and want to try new ideas and 'find themselves'. Its really that simple.
Just my opinion.
Of course the guy makes some ok points but I am getting kind of tired of the church bashing. I have been guilty of it myself but maybe its growing up, but I just think it ends up doing more harm then good.
Frankly the article didn't seem like church-bashing. It seemed more like a call to churches to re-focus. Sacrificing discipleship in favor of pure entertainment has become far too common in churches today regardless of size. There's is nothing wrong with being entertaining if it is a tool to share the foundational truths that kids will need when they leave the nest. Sadly that requires more effort than many are either equipped or willing to engage.
I have found myself struggling with the similar mindset with young adults in the class I teach. Most are parents of elementary or middle school students and it is easy for us to do "life groups lite" that provide a pat on the back and a chance to share life experiences. But the implications of not equipping our parents to teach their kids is something that has been weighing on me and my co-teacher. But as RM mentioned, it is tough in an hour on Sunday mornings to have a significant impact on people who already are juggling dozens of balls in the air.
