Don't know much from Chris Cornell
You should familiarize yourself. He's not just a great songwriter, but one of the greatest and most versatile voices in rock, ever. Ever.

Agreed. Vocally, he's nearly incomparable in the world of rock music. One of my favorite examples is Say Hello 2 Heaven by Temple of the Dog.

Springsteen is on my list of acts to see before they stop touring. Neil Young is another.

Bruce or Neil? I'd like to see Neil while he's got Crazy Horse backing him.

Purple. I have heard Roanoke is doing a better job with the concert productions. How was your experience with the civic center? Is it a good concert venue these days?

That doesn't suprise me because I'm sure they are losing bookings to JPJ. It was ok, but given a choice I'd go to JPJ everyday. The two big things are seating and parking. The seats are very small, typical of CC built around that time. Especially when you take into account people in Central Virginia are a bit larger then normal! The seats are uncomfortable but again they are of an old design typical of when the CC was built.
Parking wasn't great. There is not enough parking at the CC so you have to go to a parking garage. The directions and signs to get there are small and unclear. We ended up parking at a lot for $2 which was awesome and worth not waiting in traffic. The weather was nice so the walk was good. They do offer shuttle busses which still get stuck in traffic, but we're better then say......the Blue Angels system :D
I will say the people working there were GREAT. The line to get in was fast the people were all wearing Elton John glasses and friendly. Although one of the stage guards got snookered and it allowed someone to jump on stage.
We are going back for Cirque du Soleil, but we always look to see if similar acts are going to be at JPJ.

That's kind of where I stand with him. I'm not a huge fan, but want to see him at some point. Same with U2. I used to say the same about Bob Dylan, but I've heard so many terrible things about his shows that I don't want the experience to ruin his music for me.

The wife and I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers last week and they put on an excellent show. They played most of the hits as well as a couple covers and a few deeper album tracks. I've always wanted to see them and they certainly didn't disappoint. I'd definitely recommend seeing them if you get a chance. Here's the setlist:

Listen to Her Heart
You Wreck Me
I Won't Back Down
Here Comes My Girl
Handle with Care (Traveling Wilburys cover)
Lover's Touch
I'm a Man (The Yardbirds cover)
Something Big
Saving Grace
Free Fallin'
Spike
It's Good To Be King
Time To Move On
Learning to Fly
Yer So Bad
I Should Have Known It
Good Enough
Refugee
Runnin' Down a Dream
Encore:
Mary Jane's Last Dance
American Girl

For the one or two on here who may care, the wife and I are seeing Chris Cornell (Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Auioslave) in about 30 minutes. Should be a great show.
