yeah, if athletics marketing hires me, I would dub every recruiting class the "let's-wait-and-see-they-may-not-pan-out" class. There would be a line around the block when season tickets go on sale. Take down the Flames Country billboards! Up with "Let's be Realistic, maybe even lower your expectation" billboard! We'll change our school colors to off-white and gray, just to get excitement levels down. Still too hyped? Wait until you hear Ben Stein replace the red jacket guy and the elevator music every 3rd down,

McKay had red flags. No different than a coach signing a bt player who gets injured and can't play. it seems that everyone is judged by the results but JB.

Tell me the talent that McKay brought in?
Really? The man was responsible for the most ballyhooed recruiting class in the history of Liberty basketball. It may not have panned out the way we thought but at the time, we were considering the "Magnificent Seven" to be the best class we've ever had at Liberty.

Yes, he flamed out and so did the class--but to say that he didn't bring in any talent is bogus and ridiculous.

The reality is nobody is lining up to offer Dunton a job. It didn't work out for him here and the whole thing played out almost FIVE years ago. Find a new place to spew your nonsense.
This is really all you need to know about the RD situation. The people who knew/know him best have had opportunities that fit RD's skill set and he did not even sniff an interview. I suspect he may end up as an assistant somewhere down the line, but that looks highly doubtful. This needs to die. Take away the off the court issues, RD was never much of a HC anyway. We have enough issues to be concerned about without letting this continue to be a blip on the radar.

There is no opinion there--it's fact. Five years ago is a long time to sit on the sidelines without a deal. Here's a hint: its because he isn't a D1 coach.

Your level of hostility is wild. Coaches still on sidelines for all kinds of reasons. Of course we now have a D1 staff in your opinion, right?

No hostility here. Dunton failed and was fired, I moved on. Coaches don't stay on the sidelines for that amount of time by their own choice.

Not a lot of sense in me getting in on this one, but...

1. Yes, Dunton was fired, but I wouldn't say he failed. He brought some great successes.

2. Perhaps it is unexplainable, but RD has some people (other than me) who, for some reason
remain very passionate about him. That, by itself, is at least interesting.

3. The main people on this board are sick of hearing about him in any fashion, and really
observe no boundaries (or few) in criticism of him.

4. Although this is an opinion board, I have found it better not to speak of him, although every
now & then I violate my own restrictions & do so.

5. For those of us who do hold him in high esteem, and do resent some of the things that were
done along with the firing, we're probably better off remaining more silent & trying to
support the coaches & players who are here now, and who probably know nothing about
something which is, to them, ancient history at best.

Great post, grm.

I'd rather this thread not take this path. But if it means clearing the air and letting some things go then I am fine with it.

For as much as people get on GRM for being an apologist it really seems like every time he posts its him having to respond/defend a comment that was directly or indirectly made about him or RD.

cue MJ music...

"I'm starting with the, man in the mirrror ooooOOOOoooo HoooooOOOOooo"

Maybe the haters miss him subconsciously...

Does he coach football? :D

Barber is one of the best things to ever happen to LU athletics. Thankfully we went out and hired some fresh blood from a big-time school and a big-time conference who knows what it takes to succeed on a national level with regards to budgets, facilities, etc. That would have never happened with a lower level hire.

To those who say he hasn't made any great hires himself...

Toman was good, Layer was good, and getting Rocco to sign again was the right call. Also don't forget all the other sports as well. Obviously we all focus on football and basketball but there are some great coaches that JB has hired across the board. If you think that the next HFC will be anything but a spectacular hire you are :koolaid :koolaid

I'm thinking that the "kool aid" analogy is a bad one. I haven't researched it, but it must come from Jim Jones, the cult leader who had those 800 or so "victims" drink the poisoned kool aid at his direction. This was a case of one man imposing his will on thoughtless or helpless individuals through psychological & ultimately physical means.

When several different, unrelated people come to a common conclusion without common dialogue, it represent a divergent opinion group, not a controlled or mindless helpless mass.

The "Kool Aid" thing is a misrepresentation.

(not that I'm losing any sleep over it....
actually, at my age, I can fall asleep anywhere & at any time)

Or it is 1-2 people with an axe to grind who cannot seem to move on, trying to force others to get on board with their smearing, drink the kool aid, and turn people against JB. The guy flat out makes great hires, in major sports and those not so major.

+1, Barber is easily the best AD we've had to date.

You might want to re think that statement. This is the most autonomy the athletic department has ever had.

The key to that statement was 'had Docs ear'.
I would imagine that one or two of our previous ADs would have done quite well with the increase in budget and the decrease in edicts from The Mansion

Can't put a price on SEC experience. Need an AD with that kind of background for where we want to go.

Let's get this straight....because you say he makes great hires (we little evidence)...we are all to sign off on that. If we disagree then we have an axe to grind and can't move on.

Are you and Bj brothers because we did not have the facts on Asa case, yet the judge certifies the felony.
