Las. Vegas. That's what Mrs Purple and I did. We were even sober!

Shocking...

In all seriousness I fully understand why someone would fly off to Vegas or do something VERY small then have a nice reception after. This whole wedding thing is out of control now, they are way to expensive...they are not for you only the family and you only make people mad if they're not in it or invited. There really isnt much enjoyable about this process....at least up until this point...
I wish we'd done that, looking back on it. For what her parents spent we could have had a great down payment on a house. I always tell people to go to Vegas then have a nice reception when they get home.

Enough of this cheap budget nonsense. The wedding is the biggest day of your future wife's life. Don't let her dad off easy. Go big or go home.

On an unrelated note if your going to be tying the knot soon you'll want to invite your guest with personalized invitations that capture the uniqueness of you and your other halfs relationship. Luckily you can get all that and more at www.leenjean.com.

Ok end promotional plug

There was once a wise Prof who encouraged their students to do this:
Find out how much the parents were willing to shell out for the wedding
Tell them that it costs X dollars to get married in Vegas
Ask for the money they were going to spend on the wedding so you can put a down payment on a house.
Future father in law will be impressed by your fiscal responsibility
You will have MUCH better wedding stories and memories than anyone of your friends and family AND a house!

That sounds great when the parents are willing and/or able to pay for it.

I was offered that by my father-in-law. Sadly, she wouldn't go for it.

That's a big one to hold in reserve. Whenever she complains about anything house related....."ya know honey, if we'd taken the money (fill in blank of what she's complaining about). AND we'd still be just as married!" :D

Her parents and my parents offered the same thing. She'd do it if I pushed her...to be perfectly honest the only reason I'm not pushing for it is because of my grandmother...this means the world to her so I just cant do it

Oh well, just means I'll have to work extra hard to come up with some idea or Ponzi scheme to make up what I would have gotten...

Guys, a little advice. A lot of girls grow up dreaming about their wedding. Not the wedding night, but the actual wedding. One thing I learned early in the process was choosing my battles wisely. If there's something she wants desperately, let her have it.

Isn't there a correlation there?

Shouldn't you be asking if there is a curfew?

Hey, whatever works big fella. Although, a trip to West Virginia last night destroyed any chance of being home by curfew.

All that needs to be said is Alina and I are slowing things down (yeah I know that's like trying to tell a horse whoa after they have burst out of the barn and is a few miles down the road). We are still together, (and very happily so) just my mom was asking me a lot of questions last night so after we talked on the phone for a while, we agreed that would be the best thing to say.

When this thread was initially started, I just about wanted to have it taken down, but I figured Id at least play along because I know I was excited and everybody was excited for me and then I figured, "maybe this would be a good spot for when other guys on the board get engaged" (and of course that has happened since then) so I didnt say anything more about it.

I mean that in hindsight we would have done better to keep things between the two of us (myself and Alina) but we are having to deal with the fact that its in public but having to clarify things instead
