I beg to differ. I'll spend a day in a snowstorm with a Yankee over a southerner any day, unless I want some good laughs.

We'll have to agree to disagree, Atrain. But it is my contention that Central Virginians are not the most hurricane experienced of Americans.

It is looking like the Mid-Atlantic coastline may get the brunt of this storm before the Yankees come into play. And for the record, as long as Category I storms keep moving, they are a piece of cake. It is only when they stall that they become serious problems.

Good point, a snowstorm would be an exception :D

Hey, look! The storm track goes over my house!

I really hope we have power back by next Saturday. If I miss the NC State upset, I'm not going to be happy!

WSET's graphic said it best for the Roanoke area: "Not Much."
I'll be headed to Richmond on Saturday afternoon, should be a fun weekend once I get there.

Wind is your primary threat, medic. I would also make sure all of the vehicles are completely gassed up. Prices can skyrocket after a storm.

LOL

Fran. 1996. Utterly wrecked the Triangle and everything East of it.

And Fran's damage in dollars...

We've already had about 2 inches of rain. It's getting pretty breezy here and I'm pretty sure a few shingles have decided to vacate their location on my roof. Gah.

Its getting sheared apart like crazy though. At this rate, I'd be surprised to see winds over 80 in the Tidewater area. Lone exception being in NC.

We survived. 12 inches of rain led to some pretty serious flooding, but at least it put a huge hit into that stupid swamp fire that has been stinking up the air for the last month.

I can't believe I missed all of the opportunities for an Earth, Wind, and Fire joke here...

Glad to hear you are no worse the wear from Irene. It appears the storm blew itself out before it made it north of the Mason-Dixon Line that Atrain loves to reference.

had to go to work at the height of the storm for a special op ... craziest thing I've ever worked through.

thank God we had about 75 guys out there and not one injury... prayers answered for sure.

14 hours later and I'm home- still no power but the generator's going strong and no damage to the house.

Glad to hear you weathered the storm well. We went without power for a month after Ike. No fun at all.

Glad you're ok Medic.

I went to Richmond and rode out the storm close to VCU...we didn't lose power, but lots of trees fell and a couple cars got smashed.

We didn't lose power at all. I'm very surprised as every one I've talked to that lives here lost it for at least a little while. It was stressful though as I have 20+ pines surrounding my house. Everytime I heard a large gust of wind I was praying it wouldn't knock a tree over on my house. We were very fortunate.

My parents lost several trees in the Virginia Beach area and still are without power but for the most part, the damage was kept under control. The hype surrounding Irene probably saved thousands of lives as people began to evacuate and get out of the way.
