I bet if I left my kid in a hot car for 10 minutes while I went into 7-eleven I would be doing time for it.

Amazes me that people, especially on this board, think that this is justice... I understand the court system and trial by your piers, but this is the ridiculousness of the system and only going to get worse. It is next to impossible to convict someone of a ludicrous crime that gets any National attention. The Lawyer looks at these cases as a way to promote himself and figure out an "at any cost" defense". How hard is it to get "reasonable doubt" when you get corrupt experts willing to say anything the defense tells them to say? When a suspect can lie to make the story more believable and create doubt, only to find out that she lied and she will get time for that, but get off on the biggest charges. Better believe if she was willing to lie about those things, she lied about so much more... 31 Days to go to the police to tell them her child was missing? Having your mom tell a jury that she was on her computer searching about Chloroform? Using Social Media to let people know that she didn't even seem to be bothered about her daughter missing...

And even worse... She will now make MILLIONS selling the rights to the story. Sad state of affairs if you ask me.

Trying to understand why she would duct tape a child's mouth shut after she has already died by accidental drowning. Is that what they say happened?

My guess is that it was an accident. But, it was due to neglect and she panicked. Tried to cover it up... That's the better situation - the worst is that she didn't want to be held down by a child anymore and killed her daughter in cold blood. Either way - she should be rooting in jail for the rest of her life. Not sure about the duct tape... All I know is to have an expert being paid by the defense seems a little fishy to me. Spitz has a history of doing things for money - reality TV, selling body parts for money of his patients, etc... Said the Duct Tape was put on after body was decomposed?

We live in a society with the highest per capita incarceration rate in the WORLD. It is said that 1 out of 3 black males will serve some sort of jail time in their lifetime. About 3% of our total population is either in jail, prison, house arrest, probation, or parole.

I would say the system is having no problem getting convictions.
Not sure i believe that 33% of the black males in our country have been in jail - but I'm guessing that you got that from a reliable source. 3% seems low to me (probation included)... Not my point however. I was talking about high profile cases where they become media spectacles. Most that 3% know what they did was wrong and are serving time because they pleaded guilty for a minor charge. I'm talking about cases where everyone knows their guilty, but they play the system to get off.

Sad thing is, had she killed her in the womb, nobody would have cared. Its a great point.
