This is my hobby. I even make some money with it at times. You touched on a topic I love.
Nikon cameras? Interesting.
Photography in general.

Here is a shot I took the other day near the top of a Bedford County mountain. Image

I know, I was kidding because you seem so offended by that word.

I know and I was ignoring that fact.

Look, I'm sure they are great cameras. A ton of pros use them. I've just been a Canon guy most of my life. I had a Minolta film 35mm at one point that I loved, but other than that all I've had is Canons.

Bumping up this thread because my Canon 7D arrived today. Frankly I don't plan on using it much for still photography. I am tricking out to be my regular video rig. Anybody else on here used their DSLR extensively for video? This is a new direction for me from traditional pro video gear. But so many of my production buddies are ditching their 10-20k cameras to shoot with the 7D (or even better the 5D Mark II which I decided was overkill for my video needs) that I decided to go all in.

I am still acquiring the gear necessary for my audio workarounds. But I am jazzed nonetheless.

If I'm not mistaken, it's less than 2 years since the first DSLRS with video capabilities came out, so it's not something a lot of people have experience with. When I bought mine last year there were only a couple on the market and they were more than I wanted to spend.

I considered waiting until September to go that route but I have several projects this summer that are essentially underwriting this gear that I wouldn't have been able to do without gear. But it does look promising. The demo videos that have leaked out look great. No better than the 7D but great nonetheless.

Well you could always go the rental avenue, as ive used www.rentglass.com

Also its a great way to get a feel for some lenses for your 7D. Ive used them for a few years now with 0 problems.

A buddy that went with me to Italy and Greece rented some glass and it turned out to be a great idea. I never thought of it, but he took a 15mm fisheye lens that he took some awesome pics with and a big zoom

I may go that route for individual projects. Most of my shoots are outdoors so even the basic lens I have right now should be fine out of the chutes.
