I think the guy is great. He preaches on topics that a lot of "wise" pastors shy away from. The guy is legit, potty mouth or not - he preaches the bible which is a rare thing these days... As far as his books, I'd suggest reading Vintage Jesus before Vintage Church (it came first, loved the book - modern yet truth). He is doing great things for God and his style reaches a huge group of people that wouldn't be reached otherwise.

www.marshillchurch.org -- has all their sermons for free (The Good Friday & Easter sermons were incredible).

http://theresurgence.com/ -- "The Resurgence is a movement that resources multiple generations to live for Jesus so that they can effectively reach their cities with the Gospel by staying culturally accessible and Biblically faithful."

I dont think its so much as a pottymouth in that he swears all the time in his sermons, but rather is knows the culture he is trying to reach and fits in with them, and he presents the bible in a way that your typical seattlite might understand, without watering it down. Like his books, Vintage Jesus and Vintage Church are basically doctrinal books present so that someone who has never seen the bible would understand it.

And im allowed to say your typical seattlite because I grew up mostly in seattle, and both my brothers are in ministry out there.
Ya I know he calls himself Emerging Reformed and I know he is obsessed with Piper as is many of my Reformed friends

I have an mp3 archived somewhere on my server at home of Driscoll giving a fantastic message at Southeastern Baptist Seminary on the emergent movement. I'll get it online later if I can remember.

Basically, Driscoll was originally a part of the group that was pushing the movement. Somewhere along the way when they started to veer from mainstream theology and doctrine, Driscoll parted ways with them. He is definitely not emergent. He's the real deal, so far as I'm concerned. I think it's why he's had success in Seattle where others would have failed miserably.

Having said that... he's just a guy. We'd do well not to make rock stars out of our pastors, IMHO.

Not really -- you're thinking Brian McLaren and some of the Emergent guys. Driscoll is pretty orthodox regarding doctrine, but pretty unorthodox in methodology.

It's just a file server. About two years ago I realized I needed a place to save all of the photos I take of my son (and other misc. files), but I didn't want to just put them on a hard drive. I'm too paranoid. If the drive failed, I'd lose them all. I wanted to set up a RAID1 array (two mirrored drives) such that if one failed I could just replace it and not lose any data. I didn't want to build a real server as that would be overkill. Eventually I found the D-Link DNS-323. At the time it was the only device out there doing what I wanted in a simple way. Now there are lots of them. But it still meets my needs. Gig Ethernet, RAID1 storage, web interface for management. I really like it.

My paranoia was well founded. Just last night one of the drives failed. I had Newegg overnight a new one today. My data is still safe on the second drive. As soon as the new one gets here, I'll pop it in and it'll be turned into a duplicate of the working drive. Easy as pie.

All of that to say: I looked on the server and found the Driscoll file. It's actually a 250MB MPEG4 video file. So, I won't be posting it here. If anyone is interested shoot me a PM and I'll get it to you.

I'm pretty sure that sermon is online, audio and video, I've listened to it once. If I have time I'll try to find it.

I was watching to see whether or not this would get mentioned on here.

Suffice it to say that there is a disconnect between MD and many in Evangelical circles in regard to his methodology.

He's been to LU before, when Caner was here, but it wasn't to speak.

I support the board on this one. Driscoll is very bright and a great teacher, but he's been on to some things that the school is definitely against. There are thousands of pastors out there, there's no need to invite him here. Just my opinion.

Liberty had Newt (Catholic), Beck (Mormon), Stein (Jewish), and a few liberal people; Kennedy, Kain, Jewish Rabbi who was with LGBT( i believe it was Eric Yoffie), and the pro choice Rabbi, ways back speak in Convo/Graduation Speaker.

You telling me they are freaked out by Driscoll?

I'm guessing none of these people have read Song of Solomon...

People do understand that God created sex to be more meaningful than a way to reproduce right? Maybe I've just been working to long and read the article wrong but I'm confused as to where Driscoll went out of line (maybe he was a little too graphic?). I'm not going to get into a theological debate about this because I feel that time would be better spent witnessing but I do find it odd that so many Christians have problems with preachers who talk about sex.

Not that this has anything to do with the conversation, because I know nothing of Mark Driscoll, but everytime I go to convo and hear some sermon about sex and marriage I just roll my eyes. We get it! And the ones who don't never will anyway.

I think so many young Christians get this "sex is great when you're married" thrown at them, and they go run off and get engaged at 19 and 20. They think it's love, but really it's for other reasons. Not that this is everybody of course, but it's just my opinion. But I think there has to be a correlation because we cram so many Christian youth into thinking this.

I'm sure sex in marriage is great. But if you're getting married based on that sole purpose, you're in for a rude awakening. Because so many emphasize it, we're already dooming thousands of marriages from the day they start. I know a lot of personal friends of mine, strong Christians, they get married at 19, and they listened to sermons that often were on this sort of subject.

Just my opinion though.
