Seriously. Look at the number of aircrafts. We would dominate their skies in a week.

If China uses an e-bomb on the US we wouldn't stand a chance.
I'm assuming by "e-bomb" you're referring to some kind of EMP attack? At best that would currently involve a high-altitude nuclear detonation. If someone breaks out the nukes it's all over anyway, so I'm not too worried about it.

First -- the above statistics don't take into account mobilization. Having more aircraft carriers than the enemy doesn't matter if you can't get them across the Pacific.

Second -- there is no reason why China would attempt a military attack on us. They have over a trillion dollars of ours, if they wanted to destroy us they could easily do so economically.

The US and China are mutually reliant on each other. I highly doubt either would push things to war, if anything, I think the relationship will get stronger over time.

And China has a much higher chance of disintegrating due to political turmoil than we do. Much, much higher chance.

Such an attack (from another nation) is still a possibility, but that is no longer the United States' main concern [nuclear EMP bombs]. These days, U.S. intelligence is giving non-nuclear EMP devices, such as e-bombs, much more attention. These weapons wouldn't affect as wide an area, because they wouldn't blast photons so high above the Earth. But they could be used to create total blackouts on a more local level.

One can hope, but what if our government decides we can't pay those trillions back? How does a nation file bankruptcy?

That should be easy....just send Hillary with an IOU note. Maybe even trade her out for a discount on that debt.

I understand what you are saying, but if China calls in all the debt, we would at the very least see massive tax increases (if not total economic collapse), which would cut or erase the purchasing power of the American consumer. Cut or erase the purchasing power of the American consumer, and China's economy fails as well, and that would most likely evolve into a chinese civil war. I don't think it will ever be beneficial to either to stop their reliance on the other.

I woudn't rule anything out, but I would place my bets on something happening with Taiwan to incite an eventual war rather than something related to our economic relationship.

Reading is fundamental.

I said "currently" and you point to an article that talks about years of research and then speculates that we might have such a weapon in our arsenal. We also might have sharks with lasers strapped to their heads but probably not. Just like we probably don't have an "e-bomb" secretly stashed away. There's a reason they've been researching it for years. It's really freakin' hard to do. There's absolutely no proof (even from research universities) that we've successfully developed a non-nuke EMP weapon. Lots of theory and conjecture does not a weapon make.

The next major solar storm we're due for in 2012 is supposedly going to make EMP weapons look like they're toys for chumps anyway. We'll see.
