Update to the original topic...

Gregg withdrew his nomination over fundamental differences. The difference is this: previously, the Commerce Dep't was in charge of the Census Bureau. Big deal, right?

Well, Obama's administration wants the Census Director to report directly to the White House. Big deal, right?

Well, the census counters employ statisticians who make estimates for the people who get missed in the head counts. Big deal, right?

Well, the census is used to appropriate how many Congressional Districts a state receives, which in turn, affects how many Electoral Votes a state gets. Big Deal, right? Are you starting to get it?

Obama's administration wants to be the people who estimate how many people are missed in the census. The people who tend to be uncounted are generally low-income minorities in high-density areas (and these people just so happen to vote Democrat). If you can find enough people in the right areas, you can easily find a way to grab another Congressman or two for your cause.
