that is about the most ignorant reason for not voting for someone i've ever heard. they aren't voting because of gender and location. that is retarded

That's like saying they won't vote for Obama because he's black.

This is a good choice. I heard 26% of hillary supporters were supporting mccain and only 66 were supporting obama, so that still leaves a lot out there. It will be interesting to see the polls in a few days, but i think this will pull a lot of hillary supporters.
it will also help conservatives support mccain because she is pro life, nra member, very conservative on energy, involved in reforming ethical standards for polititians, young, a mom, has a kid with down syndrome. these things appeal to many very specific groups that can really draw in more conservative voters who may have avoided this election

Now McCain stole Obama change saying and defeated Obama's attack on him being like Bush. With his VP pick he blew that argument away

First of all, Alaska is very relevant to the upcoming administration whoever holds office. She is a bit of an enigma as an environmentally-friendly outdoors enthusiast. So I am guessing that some Big Oil big shots won't be thrilled with her selection based on her stances as governor. But she will certainly steal attention away from Obama fresh off the greatest speech of our lifetime.

Frankly this is a calculated risk that could either pay massive dividends or kill McCain's chances.

As for Kay Bailey-Hutchison, she is a former UT cheerleader who fell into office at Dubya's appointment and has had a very unremarkable run in the senate. That said she is imminently more qualified than the junior senator from Illinois. But I am glad to see McCain look elsewhere.

True marketing genious which is what is needed to beat the ultimate paper tiger who is nothing but a marketing ploy! Romney would not have excited anyone. They already made up their mind on him long ago. Her moment and folks opinions of her start today.

At first glance it looks like a horrible choice, but in the long run it might be a big bonus for McCain. She is a real up and coming GOP member.

It will pull women and help with the conservatives on the fence.

Only concern - if something happens to McCain - will people think she is ready to be President? Experience?

The last thing McCain needs to be harping on is Obama's lack of experience...b/c this gal has like what, 3 years experience being Gov...and a couple years being Mayor? Call me a hater on this choice.

I think in addition Biden is a loud mouth....and every knows it. But when he has to debate face to face with a women he is either A. going to say something incredibly stupid or B. Lose points with women voters because it will seem like he is picking on a women, thus tiping the balance of more hilary supporters to not vote obama.

We finally have a nominee in the running who has actual, albeit limited, executive experience.

Here's Matthew Staver weighing in:
"It's an absolutely brilliant choice," said Mathew Staver, dean of Liberty University School of Law. "This will absolutely energize McCain's campaign and energize conservatives," he predicted.

Sly, unless you're going by your insider information, I've read that she is for drilling in ANWR and is very conservative when it comes to the energy issues. It is possible to be a conservative and a nature-lover (like myself). And, her husband works in the oil industry.

As for experience, she has a lifetime of experience when you compare her to Obama, so McCain will definitely keep on Obama's lack of experience. Obama, two years as a junior senator, about ten years of unknown. McCain's VP is more "qualified" to be president than the guy heading the Democrat ticket.

And on the woman aspect. I work with all women, and the first thing they said when they found out who McCain picked today: "Oooo, she's pretty." The second thing they said: "She's got five kids". Every single one of them, and I'm guessing this will be a very common reaction among women in this country, and those are two big pluses. Sure, they'll think that it's a calculated selection, but she'll be a very attractive candidate among women.

Bravo to McCain for this pick. Sarah Palin is a solid conservative. She is pro-life, a lifetime NRA member, wants to expand drilling in Alaska NOW, is a reformer (anti-pork even if it benefits her state and not afraid to start a fight against her own party based over matters of principle), and she believes in a strong defense. Her nomination today resulted in a standing ovation from the Council for National Policy (a very influential conservative group). She was one of three candidates that I hoped McCain would select as his VP nominee. I have to admit, I was a little surprised this morning because she had apparently fallen off the radar a few weeks ago. The Draft Sarah Palin for Vice President blog was started last year. For those of you that like to know the whole story, this would be a good place to start. I would recommend reading the posts from earlier this year.

http://palinforvp.blogspot.com/

In February of this year, El Rushbo wrote a column about a potential Palin VP nomination that began to increase awareness of her among conservatives. This is a candidate that energizes the conservative movement and creates concern for the Daily KOS (AKA looney liberal) crowd.

WHO gave a speech last night?

I think its a brilliant pick. I just came from a lunch room in a blue state where the ladies were ecstatic. The men were awstruck by her "intangibles". She's pro-life, pro-gun, pro-free enterprise and a beauty queen to boot-second in Miss Alaska pageant. She hunts and fishes on the weekends. Five kids, one in Irag and one with downs syndrome. Self-described hocky mom. Women will love her. CNN kept flashing "Christian" during her speech. The conservative base is now energized and McCain can now reach out to the moderates in battleground states where the election will be won or lost. She has to look good in the debate but Biden does too.
