“Free enterprise, as we know, has done more to bless humanity than any other economic system,” Romney said. “For American aid to become more effective, it’s got to embrace … the power of partnerships, of free enterprise … and leverage the abundant resources that come from the private sector.”

Another good quote from the CGI speech by Romney

My philosophy is that we should stay out of the worlds business. It worked for the first 120 years of our nation.
You mean the first 120 years where we weren't the world's foremost superpower? No thanks... Of course we don't make all of the right decisions, but my belief is that the world is generally better off when we pay some attention to it and make smart investments in emerging economies and our allies in general.

In my opinion, your philosophy ignores 240 years of exponential growth in technologies and markets that have made the world smaller and our economies more intertwined. Our problem is an inability to look more than 4 years down the road when it comes to crafting a cohesive strategic outlook in our foreign affairs.

Totally agree. WWII killed the philosophy that we should stay out of the worlds business. If it weren't for the Japanese bringing us into the war, we might have arrived on the scene too late, and might be speaking German right now. Or even if we did fight off the Axis forces on our home soil, we might have seen a few more scenes similar to the World Trade Center buildings in some of our major cities.

Bottom line is in a nuclear world, and living in a nation so dependent on foreign oil, we have to be in the middle of the world's business. It is for our own self preservation.

You make so many assertions in your post... "What if, could if, etc."

The reason we got involved in WW2 was largely due to Pearl Harbor. Yes, I'm aware we aided Britain long before that. But not actual war. Then, after we declared war on Japan, Germany then declared war on us. Of course, when another nation attacks us, or declares war, we attack them.

My definition of us being a superpower is largely economic. We still are, but socialism from inside our nation will kill us. It is not our business whether extremist Muslims throw rocks at each other. We are not the worlds police force.

The Middle East and Africa was much off economically under colonization from Europe. But despite this, tribes formed an army in every state to drive imperial powers out. What makes you think these people won't react the same way to us?

So, do we wait to throw them at us, and after a high cost, decide to get involved. If we can foresee an action to our best interest, yet outside our borders, why not take it?

Depends what your definition is. If you really believe that a bunch of illiterate people can take over your country, then I'd leave it at that.

But if Iran (or any other nation state) declares war, then we go.

I know few of you agree but that's just the way I say it.

I'm not old enough to really know, but I'm pretty sure prostitutes were here before Dick Morris was around.

Mitt has a lot more energy then Obama tonite. Obama is all about the cliche. Obama keeps talking about Mitt planning a 5 trillion tax cut for everyone but the middle class. Mitt FINALLY answered and said you can keep saying that's my policy, but I have said what my plan is several times and that's not it.

Finally! He shoots he scores!
You had 4 years as President and just now you are putting forward deficit reduction
You said you would cut the deficit in half in 4 years. You just haven't got it done.
I don't want to raise taxes because I believe what you said in 2010. You said you would keep the tax rate the same because you don't raise taxes when growth is slow. It's slower now then when you made that statement

Obama, shifts and blames the oil companies and outsourcing. It's to be expected but Mitt has so much more depth economically it's funny. Obama just goes for anecdotes

You put 50 years of Gas and oil tax breaks into one year of green energy subsidies
A friend of mine said you don't pick the winners and losers, just the losers.
And this tax break for moving companies overseas? Ivebeen in business for years and I have no idea what you are talking about. The idea that you get a tax break for shipping jobs overseas is not the case

Obama is going with the shot gun approach. He may want to fire John Kerry as his debate prep!
