It doesn't really change anything, the only thing different is that they don't put R and D next to names on the ballot. The two parties still control everything, as canidates still belong to a party 99% of the time. I do like the unicameral though for state government structure.

I don't. Doesn't make any sense, though of course they can do it that way if they want.

Interesting jbock in favor of bigger government...do tell

edit: I agree that two houses make sence at the Federal level as one is elected georaphically and one by population but since they both are voted on by population at the state level it seems to be a duplication of efforts.

That is pretty funny 09  yes I love big government, one whole House of it! :D

To me, it's simply about logjamming legislation and providing another layer of checks and balances. Today, you can't get the Republicans anymore excited about invading everyone's cars and searching them without probable cause.

So....while i was reading Business Week today, I read where Bernanke stated that low interest rates were not the cause of the housing bubble, but blamed foreign countries increased housing prices and stupid investors....made me just shake my head.

Maybe the secret Romney deal people keep mentioning, maybe Romney is promising Paul the spot as chairman of the Federal Reserve...hmm :D

But what is the deal with Paul being so kind to Mitt? I don't understand it but it's obvious.

Because Ron knows Mitt is the man for the job! :D

Here is another thing to think about for those who are disillusioned with 'The System'. Is it more effective to change something from inside or outside? Put aside the hyperbolic 'both parties are the same' and ask if it would be easier to change the way the Republicans legislate by getting involved with them or turning away from them. IMO, this is why the Tea Party was and has been successful. And believe it or not, in ripping Mitt you make my point. Whenever I bring up Mitt was the Conservative in 08 everyone says that only because he was compared to McCain. Therefore Republicans are offering a more conservative option than last time. What is to say this trend can't continue. If Mitt picks Paul Ryan he'd be next up and so on and so on. Disengaging, IMO, does not do much good. I believe in changing from the inside.

Haize, you're never going to convince Ron Paul supporters that both parties aren't the same. Trust me. I've tried it and you will get nowhere.

I share their frustration though.

I agree. Like you said about 18 pages ago most of them just resort to name calling.

I'm frustrated too, but I haven't given up hope.

Well considering you support mittens, you shouldn't be frustrated, he's only running for Bush's third term.

But they should. But Romney keeps trying to ram statehood down their throat. Puerto Rico gets so many subsidies they'll never become a state just to keep the gravy train rolling.

Actually they do teach English in Puerto Rico starting around middle school (Both my parents lived there growing up). Have been doing it for years. The majority of Puerto Ricans (whether in urban cities or rural towns) know a decent amount of English... and as far as statehood goes, a lot more people are in favor of statehood then in previous years. It may not happen within the next couple years, but I would expect it to happen in the not-to-distant future.

Puerto Rico holds a referendum on statehood this November. Options are statehood, independence or status quo.

NG33, what Santorum was refering to is that the government and courts are done in Spanish primarily, not English as required for annexation. You're correct about the locals.

ATrain, the statehood referendum has been defeated numerous times before.

You know I was supportive of Santorum staying in the race and continuing the process, at least for the next month or so, but after viewing this article I think it's time for him to call it quits. http://washington.cbslocal.com/2012/03/ ... er-romney/

By the way, if Bush had used his ink pen a little more and veto'd some bills he would have been a better president. Instead he squandered his opportunity for real reforms by trying to work with the democracts in a 'bipartisan' way. The Republicans controlled both sides of Congress and the Presidency... did Americans really want Democratic ideas at that point? If Romney will stick to his economic guns, repeal Obamacare and cut deficits - he will do just fine. I just hope he doesn't get sucked into having to defend himself in the debates. In such a terrible economy he should easily be able to turn any question around on the media.

Why would they want to be a state? They get all the benefits without all the hassle!

I tried about 20 different ways to get the video embedded, but for some reason I can't make it happen today.

Not necessarily. Slowly, but surely they have been getting all those extra privileges taken away. The feeling of my family there is that it's just a matter of time before they are just like another state in the U.S.

And that was my bad JBock. I usually have to correct people when talking about Puerto Rico. It's amazing to hear peoples misconceptions about the island. But yes you were right.
