Folks...I got a problem I hope somebody can help me with. I am trying to copy a bunch of pics onto a flash drive. It will copy some, then I will get an error message saying "Error copying file or folder. The directory or file can not be created"

I then can not copy anything more to the flash drive. It is only about 1/4 full, so space is not a problem.

Has anybody out there seen anything like this before? If so, how did you solve it. BTW...it is not a defective flash drive...I did return it and try a diffent one...same results.

no, it sounds like your SOURCE is the problem.

your error may well be the file you are ATTEMPTING to copy, not the destination.

try ignoring that file and copying the rest of the folder.

(sometimes you get that option)

there may also be some type of debugging feature to repair the file in question.

I just don't get it...I have never seen anything like this before. It can not be the files on the computer are corrupt. After I put some pics on the flash drive, it does not matter what type of file I try to save on the flash drive, I get the same error message. I can not copy anything to the flash drive anymore, and it is only about 15% full?????????????????????????

Have you tried it on different computers?

What about connecting your camera directly with the USB wire to the computer...and downloading the pictures that way?

what if you delete all the porn off of it? That stuff takes up a lot of room.

Same brand and model? Or did you try a different brand?

Have you tried formatting the drive?

How do I format the drive?

And they were the same brand and model flash drives.

It is on my mom's computer. It does say that I am using a high speed USB Drive on a non-high speed port, but it says it will just transfer more slowly....does this have anything to do with it? I did not think so, becasue I was able to transfer about 15% of the pictures that I wanted to.

To format: Go to My Computer, right click the drive and select format. Windows will make it obvious from there.

What OS is your mom running? How big is the flash drive? I know this may seem irrelevant, but it might not be. Promise. :)

Scorch...thanks for the help. The reformat did the trick. FYI it did change the file system from a FAT file to FAT 32 after I formated the drive.

Also FYI...it was a Memorex 2gb drive, and the OS is XP

FAT32 is more better. It can handle 4GB files and 8TB file systems. FAT16 can only handle 2GB files and 2GB file systems. It's likely that you were hitting some upper limitation of FAT16. Not sure why they'd be formatting their drives as FAT16. Guess it could be some mistake at the factory.

If this turns out this didn't fix it, let me know. Good luck.
