PS....Just rooted the Evo using Unrevoked....one button and done. Downloaded a bluetooth and wifi tether and now I'm a mobile hotspot. So sick.

Are you paying the $10 a month data fee? Also, I assume this is a way around the $29.99 a month to use your phone as a hot spot?

Well they applied a few discounts that cancelled out the $10 fee. I had a few add a phone charges that they were able to do away with so I'm actually saving money. Yes, rooting it allows it to be a hotspot for free.

Wow, reading about all of these apps is kinda tempting me to switch over from my Blackberry. However, I'm not sure how I'd live without my BBM... :?

Trust me, you'll do just fine. There are a slew of free messenger services to choose between. Android's growth is primarily on the strength of BlackBerry converts.

If you go back and read all of my concerns as a diehard BB owner you'll see that I was prob one of the toughest to win over....but hands down the best operating system I've ever come across. Its right up my alley though b/c you can truly customize EVERYTHING and I love computers and hacking and programing and stuff. I do miss BBM though however that's a distant memory after all the things I've gained

As far as Apps go...I downloaded SNESoid where you can play EVERY oldschool Super NES game made. WOW, talk about memories.

My Eris has started slowing down. I'm not sure what the deal is, but it auto downloaded a huge updated that included the voice navigation the moto droid has. I'm thinking about doing a hard reset.

HMO, I'm gonna start downloading all these apps you mention ha, I haven't heard of many of them. How similar is your phone to the incredible?

bump...

I rooted my droid and it is a completely different phone.

need to recommend simiclock and launcherpro for customizing the home screen. Also, vlingo has been mentioned before but they have updated it since i had it on my blackberry >2yr ago. vlingo car is awesome, must have for anyone who uses their phone in the car frequently. it reads texts to you and takes voice commands for most major apps.

I tried rooting my evo like the 2nd day I had it but it was unsuccessful. I tried it with unrevoked. The computer would just never find the phone even after the successful driver installation. I think it's probably this garbage computer's fault. I just wanted to do it for the hotspot but I haven't needed that function since. I may try again one day. If you want to do it, look it up on youtube and they walk you through it if it's been done for your phone. Make sure you also understand how to undo it as well before you start in case you need your warranty later.

Which Hboot is your EVO? The newer ones were tougher but I believe Unrevoked have released a version for the newer ones or will be here soon.

This has a lot of good info in it....I could do it for you but if you try again after reading this thread you'll be good to go. It's to big of a difference not to make the jump.....my phone is running a million times better right now on MIUI then any of the SENSE Rom's I had. Not to mention they are coming out with the new UI here soon that will just blow your mind.

MIUI is where it's at.

my raggedy phone isn't compatible with MIUI, I was just happy to get FROYO bc they aren't even gonna release it for my phone. I'm currently running TazzFroyo in my Eris with a Duke theme :)

I've been running the free version of Lookout since they first started the Droid ad campaign highlighting it last fall. And I have to admit I like it mor ethan I expected. It hasn't been an energy hog and having the peace of mind it brings helps.

Google Play has dropped a bunch of string apps down to a quarter for a few day as part of the sale. It includes some of my favorites including Paper Camera & World of Goo. Just thought I'd pass along the heads up.

Some other apps are getting in on sales, not 25 cent low, but still significant sales price, like Swiftkey is only 99 cents. Topshelf keyboard app right there. I got it at full price when I got my first android phone it has been worth every penny. Get it now.

I got Swiftkey for free a while back, on Amazon. I check their free paid app deal daily. It's mostly crap games, but sometimes you get a $5 or $10 app on there for free.
