Guard, VDOT get new leaders

RICHMOND -- Gov. Bob McDonnell's administration announced Friday that acting state Transportation Commissioner Greg Whirley has been officially promoted to that position, concluding a monthslong search dating to the early days of McDonnell's term.

McDonnell's office also announced that he has appointed Maj. Gen. Daniel Long to assume command of the Virginia Army National Guard.

And here is the LU connection ...

Long has held numerous assignments with the National Guard. He holds a bachelor's degree from Liberty University and is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College.
