Big time slashes in price on the iPod TOuch (32 GB version is seeing a $120 price cut, that is a HUGE cut) and the nano and classic are also getting price cuts.

Apple will assuredly announce the new iPod Touch - not sure if that one will fall under the same price cut the second gen version got though.

TUrns out there isn't a camera on it after all. I thought fore sure there was going to be one when I saw on ebstbuy's website that they were going to be having cases for a new iPod touch model.

Apple just announced an update to the iPod touch line. It's not exactly a major overhaul to the player, but prices have fallen, and it appears that the new models use the same CPU as the iPhone 3GS, since they can run OpenGL 2.0. The big news is actually no news, however: there doesn't appear to be a camera, contrary to all the rumors. You'll just have to make do with 8GB of storage for $199, 32GB for $299, and 64GB for a whopping $399.

Don't even really think it's worth upgrading now since I don't really play any games on it anymore...

We just got done handling the new model, and really, there's not much to say. It's a little snappier, but we didn't do any heavy game playing, and otherwise it's exactly the same. We thought it seemed thinner, but the cold hard specs stopped that idea in its tracks.

Apple has too many of these "look at us!" events a year. If you're too special to share the spotlight with the rest of CES, fine. But just do one a year.

Yes, and if they are going to do it, they might as well make major announcements for their top of the line product other than "its got a new processor" and everything else is exactly the same as the 2G version (this one might as well just be called the 2.1Gen version). They could fit a camera and FM radio (not that the lack of radip is a big deal, but it would be nice to HAVE the option) on the Nano, but not on the Touch? I just don't get it. I and seemingly many others would have gotten the new touch if they would have added a camera, now me and the rest are just going to stick with we have or get the zune HD when that comes out. I'm just going to wait until I get a real job then I will get the Palm Pre or a Blackberry and only upgrade my Touch when it dies or apple actually decides to make some major upgrades to it. heck, I might even downgrade to the nano since that actually has a camera on it, won't need all the internet stuff and whatnot when I have a data plan with the pre...

Apple could have at least given an incentive for people to upgrade to the new touch. I have a feeling a new processor with terminology most people won't even understand will do that. Only thing worth making me upgrade would be the 64GB but I don't need it bad enough to drop 400 on it by any means at all...

and they aren't even that exciting of announcements….its starting to numb the mac users here…early on they would hoot and holler about the "TODAY IS ANNOUNCEMENT DAYY HOORAY"

when you think about it, adding the camera to the nano is really stupid. by doing that, you are appealing to the people who want a camera in their iPod, which is a lot of people so that isn't bad at all. BUT a lot of the people who want a camera in iPod Touch. So now for people who consider the camera a breaking point, they may decide to go with the cheaper nano rather than buying the more profitable touch - not only does Apple make more money off the actual iPod, but they will make more money off the apps which someone cant get on the nano.

Seriously, in my case I'm going to get a smart phone when I get a real job anyways and would have considered getting a new iPod Touch with a camera. Well without the camera, the nano all of a sudden becomes a viable option since the smart phone will give me the internet and apps stuff as well. So why should I get a camera-less iPod Touch when I can get a nano for much cheaper and get a camera? What's that mean for apple? Less $$$. Might just decide screw it, I don't need a camera on my mp3 player, then the Zune HD and the mp3/pmp players from Archos and Creative become very attractive options, which means Apple would get even less money.

I was pretty pleased with some of the announcements today. I guess if you were just looking at hardware it wasn't that big of a deal. I really like the new iTunes 9 features combined with the 3.1.1 update on my iPhone. Because of my phone I don't own any of the iPods, so I've been ignoring those updates for a couple of years now.

As for events...

Apple usually does 3 press conferences a year. They usually announce new computer hardware in January, new computer software in the Summer at their developer's conference and music-related stuff in a third event (which has been in September for two years). Seems pretty methodical to me.

Obviously I'm a Mac guy, but I dunno. I don't get the bashing.

After having an iPod video with 64GB and thinking I needed to be able to carry around all my music with me 24/7, i've actually never found a need to carry anywhere around even 1/4 of my music with me all the time.

Nobody *needs* to carry more than a few albums at any given moment, unless they're on a road trip. I prefer the convenience of having everything (or almost everything) in one small device all the time. Syncing and editing my library takes up valuable time.

I can't say enough good things about my iphone. I know it just sounds strange, but I couldn't live without it anymore! Best adult purchase I have ever made! (my nintendo was the best kid purchase I made)

I agree. I use pandora more on my BB than I do my 30 gb Ipod video. I think I am going to just put video on it from here out.
