The fire department’s hazardous materials teams investigated this morning a report of an unidentified white powder mailed to the Christian Broadcasting Network.

Mail room employees discovered the substance at about 9 a.m. in a pre-addressed envelope mailed to the network’s office on Centerville Turnpike, said John Turver, vice president of marketing for the network.

Officials evacuated and closed the building as a precaution and sent a sample of the substance to a state lab in Richmond for analysis, Turver said.

Preliminary tests have determined that the powder is harmless, but final results won’t be available until after 5 p.m., he said.

Four employees were exposed to the powder and reported rashes, but no other symptoms, Turver said. Paramedics were monitoring the employees, who will be decontaminated and sent to the hospital for further tests, said Battalion Chief Tim Riley, a spokesman for the fire department.

I watched NOVAnow on PBS last night and they did a story on how the FBI tracked down who was doing the Anthrax sending back in '01. That stuff is fairly hard to get a hold of and they can now figure out where it came from by checking the bacteria's DNA.

Also, it took you less than 1 week to start posting here again.

Three things:

#1) The suspicious powder was a bodybuilding protein. Pat Robertson, back in his 'I want to rebrand myself as a health guru, like Paul Newman did with salad dressing' phase, came out with a weight-loss shake. I'm guessing some yahoo thought it'd be funny (or at least, ironic) to send weight-loss powder instead of anthrax.

#2) Four people in the mailroom went to the hospital for rashes. Now I'm wondering what the deal with them was. Probably all in their head.

#3) I un-retired because I felt the FF community wanted to know about this. Now I'm re-retiring.

Yeah, you can get stress-related reactions in the form of rashes. And when they thought they were going to die from Anthrax, they probably freaked.
