But the government just might steal your thunder......and add it on top of the income tax. Now we'll be saddled with both!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 09_pf.html
With budget deficits soaring and President Obama pushing a trillion-dollar-plus expansion of health coverage, some Washington policymakers are taking a fresh look at a money-making idea long considered politically taboo: a national sales tax.
How could nobody see this coming?

That's funny. I actually did not see that coming. So now, we'll be paying tax on our income, businesses' embedded taxes, and now sales tax. Sweet.

8)

This has always been my argument against the Fair Tax. The government can't not abuse it.

Looks like Linder had foreseen having both at once.

http://linderfairtax.house.gov/index.cf ... &FAQ_id=20
If the FairTax is enacted, I expect that the Congress and states would promptly begin consideration of legislation to repeal the Sixteenth Amendment. To make certain that occurs, however, I am in favor of adding language to H.R. 25 during the 111th Congress that includes a sunset provision, meaning that either we succeed in repealing the Sixteenth Amendment within 5 years after the implementation of the FairTax or the FairTax goes away. In my view, we simply cannot risk having both a national income tax and a national sales tax in place at the same time.
But I doubt he saw it coming with no intent of repealing the income tax.

If they want to control the Internet and keep tabs on it, they won't bother doing it with a tax.

They'll give it utility status and let the cities operate the networks, taking it out of the free market. The government will run fiber everywhere and lure us all with the prospect of cheap high-bandwidth connections. Once we're all using our awesome municipal utility Internet service, we'll all be assigned static IP's so that we can be easily tracked. Laws will be passed (for the children, of course) that certain websites should be filtered from the municipal Internet . Once the filtering begins, it's over. Oh...and once the government owns the network they won't even need to bother acting like warrant-less wiretaps were ever a problem back in the day. They'll be able watch the packets whenever and wherever they'd like.

Think I'm joking? Ask Australia. They've already hit the blacklist/filter stage.
