Obama chooses a hispanic woman to fill the vacancy by Souter.
George H.W. Bush nominated her to a district court, where her most famous case was issuing an injunction against Major League Baseball, who wanted to use replacement players during the 1994 strike.
Clinton nominated her to be an appeals judge, and the Republicans blocked her for about a year before confirming her. She is seen as a centrist, although has a hard-left track record. She says you cannot bend the Constitution... although later said that judges should consider their 'experiences as women and people of color' when making decisions.
