By that logic thought ( while i don't disagree teachers are underpaid) someone could say " so what " basically because your 13-14 hour days result in 3 months off.

She also teaches summer school, because of the "no-child-left-behind" pressure, the school can't afford to lose funding. Throw in most parents who don't give a crap about their kids education and want the teachers to discipline their child (but not too much) & you've got a lot of pressure on the teacher.

She also has graduate courses she has to take throughout the year because she is the lead math teacher.

I concur....a 4 day work week would do wonders for employees.

um, yeah, ask france how this is working out. CRAZY unemployment and people rioting in the streets over not enough jobs/ not enough pay. im just fine with sticking to the free market principles. if the employer wants to attract good employees, he will give them benefits that may or may not include paid vacation. if workers want vacation, they will find jobs that provide it. no need for the government to try and 'fix' everything, they've created enough problems already.

Please, my wife teaches 6th grade science & math, plus she is the lead math teacher for the school. She gets up at 5:30 every morning....gets home around 6:30 at night....eats rather quickly.....then its grading & lesson plans until about 9:00 when its time for her to go to bed. There are also PT conferences, science fairs, after-school remediation, etc....that take up quite a bit of her time. Its actually MORE work for her to take a day off during the year.

PS. we have both a crappy house & a crappy car.

Underpaid? **** straight.
