Ahh, that brings back great memories! The marshmallows coupled with the inflatable hammers and the plastic helmets from Jefferson Builders ('97, I think) made for a great side show during the games. That was a great year for football, too! Nothing like nailing a LUPD officer in the head with a soft projectile following a touchdown! (Not that I did that or anything....must have heard that story from someone else...)

You pretty much have to have them down your pants to get them in the gate. I had many bags confiscated about 2 years ago. They didn't buy that I was going to eat them.

Than pants it shall be. I've already started spreading the word on campus (with the few people I know on campus). I'd really like to see it take off again.

Sounds like a great opening game project for the LUnatics.

Make sure when you throw them, you either

A. Use ninja stealth so they can't tell who is throwing it
or
B. are ready to leave the game.

Because if they see who is throwing them, you're gone. You'll most likely get caught by some over-zealous RA who thinks it's his duty to enforce this type of thing.

Go with the ninja stealth. This tradition needs to come back!

I think marshmallows throwing could be dangerous. Especially if you put a hearing aid battery in it. lol

Anyone remember a can of Pringles being thrown at WV Tech player a couple seasons ago? Yeah...that guy got kicked outta the stadium AND a few reps...hope you've been practicing your ninja skills.

Do you guys have any idea what melted/stepped on marshmellows will do to the new turf? Not highly recommended.

Well, we wouldnt throw them on the field. You just throw them around in the stands. Of course you'll always have "that guy" who throws it at the opposing team which would end up in the turf. But this is the same guy who throws a pringles can. He'll find a way of keeping his title of "that guy".

The key here is safety in numbers. If it's just a few people throwing marshmallows around, they will certainly get caught and ejected. If it's a sudden flourish of many marshmallows, LUPD will be taken by surprise, unable to react quickly enough. I would even be in favor of doing it once every so often, at a time known only to those participating. You know, like once on the first touchdown, once two games later... maybe only for victories, at the end of the game.

I just want to make sure everyone knows that I was not "that guy," even if I am in favor of the tradition. I fully understand why they are banned. If I happened to be a visiting spectator and got nailed by a squishy white projectile, I would be pretty upset. I just wish people could control themselves and have fun with it without throwing stuff on the field or at opposing fans.

[Enter the story of the "free seat cushion" night against GWebb several years back where an injured GW player was hit frisbee-style from about 20 rows up while sitting on the bench. Not a great way to reach people for Christ!]
