Over the last week, every time I try to burn a DVD my PC freezes up. I've used the same program, DVDFab Platinum, for over a year with no problems. It always happens during the first phase where the disc is copied to my computer. It usually freezes up around the 10 minute mark. I've asked for help on another forum and was told to try all of the following: flash my BIOS, update all drivers, download Advanced System Care free v3, CCleaner and Malwarebytes to make sure I don't have any bugs or registry issues, submit a HijackThis log...I've done all of those things and still have the same issue. Any thoughts?

System Specs:
Dell Inspiron 531
Vista Home Premium 32X
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.30 GHz
2 GB Ram
180 GB free hard drive space

a much simpler solution to try would be to do a system restore to the point before it started happening...

Yeah, write it down folks. We agreed on a computer problem.

I've done a system restore and still have the same problem. I'm wondering if it's an issue w/ my burner. It's about 18 months old and has been used a lot. I'm looking to find a good replacement for it on Newegg. The model info from Dell doesn't give a brand but says it's Half Height but I'm not finding anything like that online. Any thoughts? BTW, I'm also upgrading my RAM to 4GB.

EDIT: I took out the burner and it's an LG model GSA-H31N. The drive looks like it's standard width (I measured it to be 1 5/8 inches in height).

Could be the burner. I know that sometimes my computer will freeze if I go to watch a DVD and it has a scratch on it. Computer DVD drives tend to be more sensitive than non-computer ones. I had a DVD once that I tried playing on my computer and it wouldn't work and made my computer freeze. I tried a different DVD and it worked fine. So i tried out the DVD in question on my brother's Playstation 3 and it played without a problem.

I have been told that I may need a new fan to b/c my PC may be overheating. I don't know anything about PC fans but could adding a cheap PC case fan possibly help here? Would that be the way to go or a different type of fan? I'm looking on Newegg and getting confused by all the different fan types.

Here's a link to all the fans on Newegg:

Yeah, it would depend on which fan failed. Is it the case fan? Power supply fan? CPU fan?

On my old Dell it told me when I started up the computer there was fan failure. I don't know if that's the wya it is on all computers since that's the only one I've had fan failure on. If it s the fan, better stop using that computer until you get it replaced because you could destroy it and have to buy a whole new computer if you let it get too hot for too long...
