Obama’s Cabinet: Full of Bill Clinton’s Rotten Fruit
By W. Michael Kilgore
President-Elect Obama’s Cabinet is quickly filling up with the rotten fruit of Bill Clinton’s days. He hasn’t even taken the oath of office yet and already his songs of “change” are falling on deaf ears – his own. While many more appointments are still to come, evidently his idea of change means to load up his administration with the beltway refuse of Clinton’s Administration.
Rahm Emanuel was one of his first appointments. Typically, a President interested in a “change” from normal partisan politics will appoint a Chief of Staff that is known for reaching across the aisle to friends from both parties. The ideal COS provides access to the President from both parties in order to accomplish more together. Too bad Emanuel couldn’t be worse for the job. This is a man who, when angered by the poll numbers that a pollster sent him, mailed a dead fish to the man in gratitude. A shining example of integrity and trustworthiness himself, Bill Clinton couldn’t even trust the guy. Dick Morris tells us of being chastised by President Clinton when he gave Emanuel some confidential information. Evidently, Clinton knew he couldn’t even trust his own deputy counsel (Emanuel at the time) with the information necessary to effectively run his administration. Morris’ take on Emanuel: Emanuel is out for Emanuel.
Eric Holder, another spoiled fruit of Clinton's days, could prove to be Janet Reno 2.0 if his past record is any indicator. Frankly, his platform is a nightmare to the Constitution. First, he favors hate crime legislation. He literally believes that if someone attacks a homosexual and an old lady, the attacker of the homosexual should be more heavily punished because his so-called “motive” was of “hate for a protected class.” Evidently, Mr. Holder thinks himself worthy to look deep into the souls of every criminal and decipher whether their motive was to inflict hate on that special someone or just to get his or her money. “Dear Ms. Old Lady, you better watch your back because Mr. Attorney General isn’t.”
It gets worse. Remember the Clinton pardons? Holder’s role in granting clemency to 16 former members of the Puerto Rican terrorist group, The Armed Forces of National Liberation (FALN), was even more influential than that of his boss, Janet Reno. Additionally, Marc Rich was a man guilty of tax evasion and illegal trading with Iran. Eric Holder gave a “neutral to favorable” recommendation to Clinton for Rich’s pardon, which was eventually granted. Evidently, Mr. Holder considers it his constitutional duty to grant pardons to international terrorists and criminals. Now Grandma isn’t looking out for just everyday thieves, she has to worry about those big-time criminals Mr. Holder has put back on the street.
Mr. Holder’s love of basic constitutional rights is equal to his regard for the justice system. When the Columbine shootings occurred, he was so scared by the boys’ use of the internet in bomb-making that he attempted to pass legislation that would violate First Amendment speech rights on the internet. The Sixth Amendment right to a jury trial wasn’t any safer. Mr. Holder was instrumental in getting laws changed that made jury trials more difficult for certain defendants.
There you have it: two men on the payroll who already make the cabinet room stink to high heaven. Appointments like this lead me to make a quite startling statement: “Hillary! Save us!” With Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, we can look to her as one of the most conservative appointees of Obama’s pungent cabinet. Yet, choosing a “conservative” out of Obama’s Administration is like deciding whether one would like to (a) be baptized by Rev. Wright or (b) debate politics with Bill Ayers. Despite the pure idiocy of appointing to the highest cabinet position a woman who has eyes for un-seating him in 2012, Obama has thankfully chosen someone slightly stronger than himself on foreign policy. This wouldn’t take much since Obama’s foreign policy qualifications are that he (1) majored in international relations and (2) grew up abroad.
President-Elect Obama has implemented “change” on Washington with the astounding skill and craft of a used car salesman. The combined years spent in Washington of his appointments exceed those of Bush’s appointments. His promises of working against “business as usual” have manifested themselves in the appointment of people who not only worked for Bill Clinton but implemented some of the worst constitutional atrocities our country has ever seen while doing so. This isn’t “change” at all – it is Bill Clinton all over again.
