As the drill sergent said in "An Officer and a Gentlemen," only two things ever come out of Rustburg!!

A couple of the questions were hard; living near ocean- I like to go to the beach to sit and watch the waves, read, walk but not ride waves; I liked Lake George, my husband likes big ocean waves (used to work at an amusement park near ocean in NH many yrs. ago; I love to see the seasons change in NE but humidity is a pain...I chose "sunny and mild" but my fav is the crisp autumn air- esp. since I found out alergies aren't pollen related...but dust mites :(
75% Austin
70%Miami (I DON'T THINK SO- no desire for FL)
65%Denver- have to see Colorado; I really think I'd like it, but have to think abt. family, kids
visiting cousins...(even moving to VA would put us abt. 12 hr. drive)
60%Atlanta

You people would all be hooked on Austin if you had a chance to be there any period of time.

For the record, I was in Cheerbren's town yesterday doing to some media training and it was hotter than Houston.

2. Lafayette, LA
3. Hattiesburg, MS
4. Lynchburg, VA
5. Chattanooga, TN

My least favorites
1. Philadelphia, PA

You must have a serious passion for Cajun cooking. Otherwise you lost me on those choices. But I admit my kids love the wooden playpark along the Lake and all of the alligator stautes around town.

I think I hate Philly too. I've never been there for an extended amount of time but all of the knowledge of it's residents I've gained from that Hardees commercial makes me want to punch every Philladelphian in the head. "Wha shoo doooin? You eatin a boigahh?"

Getting back to Lake Charles, I lived there way back when but great beaches along Lake Calcaseu, Prien Lake, and Lake Charles, great public school system, very nice people, warm climate, and yes the cajun cooking and the dark coffee. Very unique culture down there, hard to explain. I had plans on moving back there but I got married in Wilmington, DE. End of story.

That would explain it. Lake Charles just seemed to come out of nowhere. Hopefully david Dees is enjoying Lafayette these days.

As for Wilmington, I spent a couple of days there visiting family this past spring. I understand your disdain.

I'm loading up the car right now to drive down to DE with a beatdown stick.

On second thought, nah- we're too cool to waste our time with people that aren't sophisticated to understand the charm of the area up here :D

I think your confusing Philly w/ da Bronx.

BIGGG difference

"LUMANGER" knows that area- ask him. (Brooklyn/Bronx- close enough)

I hate Delaware about as much as I do Philly. I just want to get that straight. I guess I am not a "big city" kind of guy.

Based on your observations, steve, I might suggest you give Corpus Christi a look. The cost of living in Delaware for what you get is ridiculous. Corpus has a great small city feel along the coast with great beaches for a fraction of what you are paying right now. Hey, you could bring your better half's entire family down there for a song and live very well.

They say Austin and Denver are the pick for me - I hate TX - too much heat!!! Nice Sly coming the hottest week in 11 years! We have not hit the 100's since 1995 and you come up! That's funny! If I could choose it would be somewhere in Tennesee or Colorado Springs, but I love our lakes here in MN and WI.

Never been to Corpus Christi before but if it is like any other small to middle size Texas town it must be a great area. I have been to Beumont, and Galvaston and they are nice cities. Houston and San Antonio are a little too big. But as far as big cities go they are pretty nice. Thinking about going down to Austin for a vacation in the next 5 years since my wife's has cousins down there. Know anything about Austin.[/quote]

For the record, the heat is not as bad in Austin as it is in Houston. But I agree that Colorado Springs would be high on my wishlist if I weren't tied to Texas for family reasons. As for Tennessee ... I was born there and I have little interest in heading to that place.

I told my spouse that if we move to VA I want to make sure my mother has e-mail..., we should have a steady supply of camcorder tapes, etc. He said he doesn't want to live in TX again (lived there in service yrs. ago w/ "1st family"-not Bushes- he's been in Marines and Army). He said Austin is expensive.

Stevev, I can't figure yet how to quote  - you commented abt. Wilmington. One of my friends early on at LU was from there and returned; I ran into someone this past Homecoming who also knew him and says he has a good reputation as a general practitioner. His name is Dr.(that seems so strange as I type it since I knew him back when he was joking abt. terms like "proboscus")
R. Wilson. I've been meaning to send a note to the address I found on Alumni site. If you do know him, tell him to keep proboscus clean and stay away from too much bacon :)

I have to say ignorance is bliss. My few months in Philly were filled with trying new restaurants-like hole-in-the-wall Korean one (?) I tried clear noodles and coconut milk while my friend commented on Schezwan dumplings :) - and a taste of Jewish life with bagels and chubs, etc.; also getting raw cane sugar; there was a restaurant in what used to be a train station, if memory is right- won't talk abt. the discussion on names of drinks. I do remember boarded-up crack houses, traffic....
I was young for my age at LU (grad. shortly before Philly exper.) in terms of wordly exper., career goals,.... I pushed the envelope in some ways but always went back to the doctrine in my roots. Relationships and direction lacking after grad., I had recently gotten my license (yes, at age 22  )and purchased my first car. The Lord watched over me- incl. the time I left my poor little Jetta alone in Philly while I went back to CT- don't rem. why- and the cops called CT thinking it might have been stollen. I had godly friends from CT/MA that sent notes and prayed....
Guess I'd better think things through for a different thread soon since I'm getting off- topic.
Overall, Philly was used in my life, I acquired a taste for eating out, etc. :) . I love country but have adjusted unexpectedly well to big city life in CT- though our little part of the city is up out of the hustle and bustle.
PS Friends from our church just moved to Tenn. and have relatives in Lynch. area.
