I have a car that currently needs LOTS of work done under the hood. However, it is barely driveable, and I wish to sell it. What's the best way to go about it? Junkyard? Dealer? Any of you interested in an 01 Pontiac with a blown head gasket and possible cracked heads on the cylinders?

I really would like to get maximum value out of this thing... so any and all advice is welcomed.

(Aside from the engine, the car is fine.)

Maximum value? Completely dismantle it and sell each part separately. Not very practical but a car is worth more in pieces. If you pay taxes you could always donate it to an organization, but as a college student, I'm guessing you get almost a full refund every april anyway. I'd push it off of a cliff and collect the insurance money.

Yeah, the tax thing wouldn't really help or affect me much. And I don't have Comprehensive coverage, so GEICO would turn a blind eye to my car on the bottom of a cliff.

And how about I sell it to you, and you sell the parts.

But seriously. I have a subwoofer and 2 amps in the trunk, and other than the head gasket... under the hood should be fine.

To get maximum value, you're going to have fix what's wrong and then sell it, unless the repairs cost more than the car's value. You may want to find a dealership that has a push-pull-tow trade-in program. Sometimes they'll offer a pretty good rebate with these promotions.

I don't have a job, nor do I have any income, and I use the standard deduction and get back all my money every year.

I would donate to LUPD... I know they will drive it.

And then the main problem with selling it is... what do I ask for it? I don't know the extent of the issues, now how much they will cost to fix. I am not going to fix the car first, that isn't an option at this point considering my financial situation.

Does anyone know of a place in town likely to take this thing? I mean, I really have no idea how I am going to get anything out of this.

You can probably figure about $1000 for a blown headgasket. So, take the blue book value and subtract $1k.

If you know someone who can do it for you, should only be about $200 with a kit.

Otherwise...sell it to a junkyard.

Where could I find a junkyard, and what should I expect from them?

If you decide to sell it in parts, HMO should get first dibs on the FUSES.
