Has anyone tried one of these puzzles? I did my 1st one in last weeks ESPN the magazine. It is a simple game. You have a grid of 9 accross and 9 down. You have a sequence of numbers, some are filled in but most are not. You have to fill in the missing numbers without repeating a number in any row or column (horizontal or vertical) as well as each 3X3 square should have all different numbers. I actually learned on a more difficult puzzle because in the Mag, there weren't numbers but rather baseball positions. Numbers are much easier to recognize what is missing. Try it if you have the kind of problem solving mind. It helped me get through my "Penske file" days last week at my new contract position.

Tried it and it did nothing for me. If I want to play with numbers, I'll get a job with Arthur Andersen.

I did them for about a week a few months ago. Their pretty funny and really don't have much to do with numbers. You could use 9 different shapes if that makes it easier for you. I stopped doing them though. No particular reason.

looked at one for about, oh- 30 seconds on the flight to SanJuan the other day and said, "oh forget THIS crap. I'm on vacation and its too much like work."

then I watched Big Momma's House 2 and laughed myself silly.

They're fun to do in class...much more interesting than the professor droning on and on about government.

If you're talking about Clausen, you better listen. That may have been one of the most entertaining classes I took. Man, just get somebody who disagrees with him riled up and let them go at it. He'll destroy people every time. And if he's not, just raise your hand and ask him about his opinion on tanks...

Is Clausen still teaching at LU? I thought he quit to found Christ College down on Rivermont. I had him for the freshman Government class in the old DeMoss 1090. He would basically say s*** and dare anyone to challenge him. He was running around the room w/ that microphone like he was freakin' Springer!

Yeah he's still teaching government...he and I ended at stalement on whether the United States should intervene to stop the Holocaust had Hitler not invaded other countries (I said we should, he said it wouldn't be ethical). And yes, I know his opinion about tanks. He also wasn't too keen on my radical idea that we should just annex Mexico (in bits and pieces till we own it all) to curb illegal immigration...

A quote from him during summer school:
"Jimmy Carter caused 9-11"-the rationale behind it is that Carter is the one who is responsible for the current regime in Iran and that the terrorists had ties or something.

Its me, an Asian dude and a black guy that will ask questions and get in debates with him...the strategy is to take up class time so we can have take-home tests.

Its Witham's class that I do Sudoko in.

SJ you are one of the great minds of the 21st century doing those things that quickly. The site I am on has a degree of difficulty from 1 -5 stars with 5 being the toughest. Those take me about 30 minutes but I can do a 1 star in about 10. That is while trying to work, and post on Flamefans as well....Interested in the Clausen Tank Theory fellas. Please share.

I haven't heard his tank theory even though he was my advisor and prof for a few classes in the late 90's.

That Clauson strategy is age-old. We did the same thing. The tests are easy too b/c you just have to ask yourself "What would a person with common sense do?" and then just write down the opposite.

Clauson believes the government should have NO ROLE in our lives except to defend the country. He's pretty strong on anything beyond that being an overstep of the Government's authority. I disagree but he has more degrees and the microphone.

Ahhh, yes. The kooky cold logic of the quasi-libertarian. Of course, you couldn't ever call him a libertarian because "a true libertarian doesn't believe in moral transactions, only economic ones". He then went on for 45 minutes explaining that statement.

I've been playing the medium difficulty level (I'm slowly moving up) and just had my fastest time of 8:22. I'm gonna work up to the evil level.

What the crap is the tank theory? I love the sound of this guy. For what it is worth it is THESE type of professors who make your college experience. I had one back in my day. Holy Cow he made Neal Boortz sound like Karl Marx. He was tough, he was looney, and he is one of the only I remember and actually now that I am older (but younger then SCAR) I realize some of his quackery makes sense now.

Still waiting on the Clausen Tank Theorem. Anyone? You can't lay it out there, tease us with it and never deliver the goods. It doesn't work for Lindsay Lohan and it doesn't work for you guys.

I got "Sip and Solve Sudoku" for my recent trips to upperstate NY. They kept me busy-
except when I needed to look up for scenery.... I can't believe the book actually suggests
these things for a coffee break! I finished the first one the day after getting to Lake George
area, picking it up now and then;started a second one on way back 4th of July and continued
on way back to NY on 7th; after solving 9 rows, I got fed up; by the next morn. I started 3rd
one, solving one row in entirety. Anyone want my book- 80 puzzles left? Maybe I'll tackle a
couple when we go to VA in Oct. BTW, any news abt. Homecoming?-last yrs. was such a big
deal on the alumni board; now I see a tiny announcement of game vs. W&M on the LU site....
