A car driven by an alleged drunken driver plowed into a bicycle race along a highway near the U.S.-Mexico border Sunday, killing one cyclist and injuring 10 others.

Juan Campos was apparently drunk and had fallen asleep at the wheel before crashing into the race in Monterrey, Mexico, police investigator Jose Alfredo Rodriguez said.

I'm guessing the web guys at Fox News are confused over where this occurred. I'm getting that it was in Matamoros (just across the river from Brownsville and near Scar's South Padre Island getaway locale) and not Monterrey which is a couple of hours away by car. If it was in Matamoros then most of the riders may have been from Texas.

Yes, I remember this debate in my COMS ethics class...more specifically, there were photos of a woman falling to her death that the Boston Globe ran. The Globe took a lot of criticism over it, but the photographer won an award I think. Though before we found all that out, we had to act like editors and make the decision whether or not we'd run the photos. We were also asked questions about whether we should photograph someone being rescued in a flood, screaming to stop taking pictures, yet being out of the way of the rescue workers, would we continue shooting? These are the type of issues that writers, photographers (or, with the convergence of media, writer/photagrapher) and editors face everyday.

Yes, JDUB, I agree with you from a photography standpoint.

I wasn't saying you shouldn't think it was awesome because someone died. I was just pointing out that as great of a picture was, it's obviously of someone dying, which makes it a little weird.

Exactly. It's just semi-weird when you stop and think about it.

Is that sarcastic saying we shouldn't think they are great photos or is that legit? Sorry, couldn't tell.

I don't think the photos are beautiful, or awesome, period. I see no beauty in death.

Without suffering there would be no such thing as compassion.

some of the most talented musicians in rock did their best stuff amidst much suffering - Ian Curtis from Joy Division and Kurt Cobain come to mind. Suffering seems to have a way of inspiring some people to do some incredible things.
