I don't know if VA is like this, but I know in PA if you go to a private school that doesn't offer a sport (in this case football) you can play at the local public school in your district.

Wow, dating the girl four months and I already know about the sports rules in Pennsylvania. Wow. Just wow.
Nope, VA isn't like that. I had some friends who were homeschooled who wanted to play bball but couldn't unless they were enrolled in school

I am surprised no one has pursued that legally in Virginia. That is denying property tax-paying citizens access to benefits for which they have paid. I know here in Texas they have to allow home schoolers access to the team for which they are zoned.

That's how it is in PA. Her brother played football for the public high school and was home schooled. One of his friends went to a private school but was going to play a sport at the public one because his school didn't offer it.

I am surprised as well...I have lived in several states (well...four...) and all of them except for Virginia allowed homeschool kids to participate on the public school sporting teams...then again in the other 3 states private schools competed in the public school league....so yeah....

My wife is seriously considering homeschooling as well. I'm not quite sure what to make of her interest. A bunch of friends send their kids to a classical school similar to NC. But I'm not sure about either of those options.

my only problem is when we get into jr high/sr high curriculum that we have to learn right along with them. i refuse to do that. if we get to a point where we don't understand something or are learning it at the same time, we need to make a change.

however there is a decent program here locally where you "share" kids.

we also have a great school district as well....i loved going to school when i was a kid. however i remember also thinking how great homeschooling would be.

the boy started preschool at a local church/school at age 3.

same deal w/ the interview- making sure he played nice w/ others and I had to hide my homicidal tendancies.
