Virginia General Assembly honors the late Rev. Jerry Falwell

RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia legislators honored the late Rev. Jerry Falwell as "one of America's most influential leaders."

The House of Delegates and Senate passed a resolution Thursday honoring Falwell for his work establishing Thomas Road Baptist Church and Liberty University in Lynchburg.

Falwell started the fundamentalist church in an abandoned bottling plant in 1956 and it grew into a religious empire. He used it and his "Old Time Gospel Hour" television show to found his Moral Majority, a conservative political force.
