...what a bunch of bumbling, incompetent boobs:
WASHINGTON - The fate of $600-$1,200 rebate checks for more than 100 million Americans is in limbo after Senate Republicans blocked a bid by Democrats to add $44 billion in help for the elderly, disabled veterans, the unemployed and businesses to the House-passed economic aid package.

Duh...who needs the help the worst? I say..."the elderly, disabled veterans, the unemployed." Do those fools not understand the term: "Election Year."

You're missing the point as to what the stimulas package is actually supposed to do. It's not a social program for those who are already collecting government subsidies. On the contrary, the purpose of the package is to get money into the hands of consumers who will feed it back into the economy. Giving it to those who are on fixed incomes and already dependant on the government, really accomplishes nothing in terms of helping the economy.

That's not what I heard on CNN tonight. They told me the Republicans hate old and poor people. They must be right.
Man, dox, where do you come up with this stuff?

Tax rebates to people who don't pay much, if any, in taxes? I thought that was called 'Welfare'.

If the whole reason for the rebates is to stimulate the economy by spending the money, it works just as well (maybe better) to give it to poor people. While I am not rich, mine will be going into my retirement fund, which isn't even in the U.S.

Having said that, I too am a bit queasy about "rebates" going to people who didn't pay taxes in the first place. We already have it with the "Earned Income Credit", where people who may have a part-time or temporary job, and make so little they aren't even required to pay income tax still get a credit back. In this case it is intended to be an incentive to work.

The democrats said they were going to do this, even as the "compromised" bill was being signed. They didn't get what they initially wanted, compromised, and said "we'll just add the rest of our stuff later". They do this right out in the open for all to see, and no one calls them on it. They get a free pass on everything.

How about the government just tell people to live within their means and not take out subprime mortgages? Or does that just require too much personal responsibility?

I think you misspelled that word.

What you meant to say was "reliance on the government".

Responsibility doesn't exist anymore.
