Someone please help me here! I am truing to find out some of McCains stances on issues of concern to me. I have tried his web site and many others and he appears to be all over the map.
The specific issues I want to know about are:
Abortion
Tax cut or hike? (Is he for making Bush's cuts permanent)
Marriage
Border security (he's for amnesty right?)
He's not a 2 term president...thats all we need to know

To answer your questions from what I have read and studies to the best of my knowledge:
Abortion - Pro-Life
Tax cut or hike? (Is he for making Bush's cuts permanent) - Was against it for various reasons (some legit some not) but now seems to be for making the cuts permanent.
Marriage - Against any Federal Marriage Amendment but also not supportive of the "homosexual agenda"
Border security (he's for amnesty right?) - Wishy Washy on this one, not sure where he really stands but he did co-sponser legislation that provided amnesty (McCain-Kennedy) but he claims that was part of the compromise with Kennedy.
I got most of this information from when he was interviewed on the Schnitt Show last week. Like I said, this isn't the gospel truth just what I have learned since I had many of the same questions. He is not my first choice but I figured I better study up a little to be ready if he does win.
One thing you cannot say about McCain is that he flip-flopped on abortion. He has always been pro-life. He is a bit too pro-tax for me, but the up side is that he is one of the more staunch proponents of reducing government spending in the congress. The thing that bothers me most about him is his stance on illegil immigration, which certainly leans toward amnesty, even if he doesn't want to call it that.
(CNN) -- Listening to the irrational and hysterical response of conservatives to the presidential candidacy of Sen. John McCain would be laughable if it wasn't so serious.
During a debate Tuesday on CNN's "The Situation Room," conservative radio talk show host Glenn Beck said that the Republican Party has lost its soul, and McCain is indicative of that problem. He even said that if Sen. Hillary Clinton is the nominee, he will ignore McCain and cast a ballot for her.
85% of the time he votes along party lines, which is somewhat acceptable. What concerns many conservatives is the manner and temperment in which he disagrees with them. He's been known to critisize his own party members publicly, in an over-the-top manner.
These are legitimate concerns and in order for him to succeed, he's going to have to kiss and make up with quite a few congress members. My guess is that he'll get that done and build a bridge with those that he's offended and alienated over the years.
Another concern with McCain is that he may be a little too war-happy and militaristic. He's going to need to balance out a little within the context of the challenges associated with the global economy.

I can understand that...after all his father and grandfather were top Admirals in the Navy...
...and he served in Vietnam and spent a number of years in the Hanoi Hilton as a POW. I think that would make us a little gung ho, too.
You may have defined the reason why he's that way, but it doesn't make the problem go away. He needs to find the proper balance, and that's not always easy for him.

Watched the whole thing, and he's great about "saying the right thing". Thus my comments about the wolf in sheeps clothing.
