I'm extremely protective of the email addresses I use the most, because I hate spam. I've gone to pretty extraordinary lengths to modify this board to keep the spammers out. I've done everything I can to fight spam.

Tonight I got my first spam text message. Argh.

It happened to come within seconds of me getting a text message back from SJ about the game. Coincidence? You decide.

Haha. I'm just saying. Your text came at 07:01:05 and the next one came at 07:01:06. Something is up with that.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking what they'd spam about, or how it happens or...?

I got a few of these a while back, and I pay for each incoming message. I could have called my provider to have the charges reversed, but I decided it was worth more than $0.30 to not have to call.

Thankfully I don't pay for my phones or my service, but it's still annoying.

Yes. All of the carriers allow you to send text messages as either an SMS message from one phone to another, or as an email directly to the phone. (For example, you can put "@message.alltel.com" after any Alltel phone number and send your text as an email.) So, the problem then becomes that much like regular email, these addresses are prime targets for spammers. It's just much more annoying for people who have to pay for their incoming text messages.

Of course, only in the U.S. do we get charged for incoming calls and text messages.
