A lot of you may remember when Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson endorsed Rudy Giuliani. Just in case you want to know what has happened to Rudy since that moment:

Image

Disclosure #1: I support the candidacy of Rudy Giuliani.

Disclosure #2: Pat Robertson is the President of my company.

Disclosure #3: I am mad that the president of my company tanked the presidency of my candidate.

If you ask me what happened, Pat thought six things.
1) Rudy is probably going to win the nomination.
2) Rudy is strong on tackling the greatest threat America faces, which is islamic fascism.
3) Rudy does not hold my views on social issues, which is causing friction among evangelicals, a major Republican base.
4) If Rudy wins, he will have done so without the help of Evangelicals.
5) That means I won't have a seat at the Power Table.
6) If I endorse Rudy, I can say that it was the evangelicals that put him over the top, and thus have my seat at the Power Table.

Meanwhile, evangelicals thought of these things.
1) Pat's a nut job.
2) He doesn't speak for me.
3) I still can't support Rudy, he's too liberal on social issues.
4) Huckabee is the only one with a decent chance at winning the nomination who holds the views I have on issues I care about.
5) If I vote for Huck, I can honestly say that I didn't just vote for the 'lesser of two evils'. That's what Jesus would have wanted.
6) Hey, look! Chuck Norris! Whooo Huckabee!

There was actually subliminal messaging in that endorsement.

You heard Guiliani, but what your mind heard was I <3 Huckabee.

I was wondering why Pat endorsed Rudy so early. I was hoping he had made a back room regarding abortion or a marriage amendment or something.

Rudy said he'd appoint strict-constitutionalists as federal judges, which is the only way to affect those issues.

Still, I don't think Pat made the right decision to endorse someone. It was bad for all party involves.

Agreed. At this stage of Pat's career, his endorsement probably hurt Rudy a bit.

Rudy planned all along to lay low until after New Hampshire. We'll see if his plan works. Hillary was just up 18 points in the national Democratic poll so things can change on a dime.

Yeah, I agree. Hillary is screwed. Obama has the o-mentum, although the Clintons are crooked, so you never know. It wouldn't surprise me if some Obama Polaroids turned up in the next few weeks...

As for the Republican race, think of American Idol. The best singer doesn't always win, nor does the preseason favorite. The person who wins is the person who'll pick up the most votes from the people who get voted out. I mean, Taylor Hicks???

Fred Thompson is putting his eggs in the South Carolina basket, but that's futile. He'll drop out after that, and probably throw his support behind McCain. But you'll get some Huck support, too.

At that point, you've got 10 days until Florida. Romney is going to go at that one HARD -- because if he doesn't win that, he'll be 0-for-4 for the main states. He won't drop out because Super Duper Tuesday is right around the corner, but he'll be deflated...

Rudy still has a shot because he has been campaigning in the Big States. He can conceivably take Florida, and then he'll be set for some wins on Super-Duper Tuesday. Plus he probably has New York and California in the bag.

For what its worth, the media in the northeast is not blaming Pat on this one, they are placing the blame on an erroneous article appearing in either the NY Post or NY Times, I forget, stating Rudi failed to properly report some of his extra marital trips with his then mistress that involved police protection to the Hamptons. Turns out the story was completely bogus as the trips were reported but the retraction article was buried on page 35. I heard a report this morning the Post/Times probably knew the story was bogus from the beginning but just wanted to remind everyone of the affair at the same time Pat was endorsing him.

Rudi was reportedly stating to the media "Where do I go to get my 12 points back?"
