Does anybody else here use flickr? I know Scorcho does. I hadn't uploaded anything in a while so I was getting caught up yesterday and I noticed that they changed the map feature while I was placing mine on there. I think that exploring the world map and seeing what pictures had been taken where was probably one of my favorite things to do on the internet. But with this change it kinda sucks. There's a big photo ribbon right in the middle of the page, the got rid of the number in the dots that tells you how many pictures were taken there. It really is just not good anymore. I'm very disappointed.

I hadn't even noticed this change yet. It must have been pretty recent.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, I like seeing the picture previews. On the other, it doesn't show nearly as many pictures at a time.

You can still explore the global map, though. Go to directly to the map (http://www.flickr.com/map/) and then click the green button in the upper right to open the zoom controls. After that you can zoom in and hit the refresh button at the bottom to get pictures for the portion of the map you're viewing.

they got rid of the clustering of the dots and if there's more than 1 in a location, they just stack them. That's a terrible way because you can't tell how many there are. I read in one of their forums, they're trying to figure out a way to fix it. I think my biggest problem is the photo ribbon right in the middle of the map. I wish I could X it out all together, or at the very least, drag it to the bottom of the page. That entire feature, makes it very difficult to navigate around the photos in one particular area.

I do see the lack of clustering now. That sucks. They've always listened to their users, though, so hopefully they'll come up with a decent fix for things.

You can move the map around really easily by dragging it, so if the photo ribbon is in your way, just move the map a little.

I know it seems every 2 seconds I'm trying to promote Google...but that's for good reason...yall really should download their free software...it has some of the best photo editing tools for a free download you'll find...and you can upload them to the internet REALLY easy just by one click of a button and then share them from there...

If I used a PC, I would use the Picasa application for keeping an image library on my own machine. I don't, and I use iPhoto instead. The Picasa website sucks majorly compared to Flickr. Flickr is my favorite site/application on the Internet. There are some really amazing tools there. Nothing even comes close. You can even do basic editing of your photos online now.

Sorcho's right. Picasa, shutterfly, ofoto, etc are nice for storage, if that's all you want. But Flickr is really ahead of the game, and it's really cheap to get some amazing features.

I must add a disclaimer that I am somewhat biased against google, and have always preferred Yahoo and its features over google.

I've been trying to use this map all day to see if I could get used to it, and I really just hate it. And it seems like it's very slow too. Maybe future updates will make it tolerable, but I hope that comes soon.

I don't like Picasa for editing. I like it for cataloging, organization and storage. I take a lot of pictures, so that's important to me. That's what I use iPhoto for. I do all of my editing in Photoshop.

The online Flickr tools are basic, but important for when you might not be at your own computer. Or when you just want to do a quick edit but don't want to re-upload. Things like that are why they're handy.

Flickr is just amazing. The social network, the mobile tools, the organization, RSS support for everything and so on and so forth. Flickr got it right. Yahoo got lucky that they were able to acquire them before someone else did.
