I am going to Raleigh tomorrow for a small concert that my wife wanted to go see for her birthday, now I am looking for a nice, but affordable place we could go for dinner before the show. I know a lot of people on this board are familiar with the area. The show is at the Lincoln Theatre which from everything I can tell is in the downtown area.

Anyways, any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks!

I was there a couple of months ago and had a great burger at a local (downtown) restaurant and I can't remember the name. I know this is of no help to you, but if I remember I'll post again.

//EDIT//
Nevermind, you said nice. This place was more of a bar type atmosphere (I think it's also a brewery). Nice enough, but not nice nice. Not birthday nice.

Downtown has a lot of good restaurants, don't know about real affordable, depends on your definition. There is a group on what is called Glenwood South area, Sullivans is a very good old chophouse style steakhouse but pricy, 42nd Street Oyster Bar has real good seafood and is not very expensive, entree's 15-20 dollars for dinner. There are a lot more in the area, just too early to think of them.

I'm not sure what your "affordable" range is, but if you want to make it a great date, take her to Bogart's. Great atmosphere, great food, great martinis for the ladies (not that I would know) and you'll be very close to the Lincoln.

Sullivans & Bogarts are both great dinner spots as part of a nice evening on the town (I'm sure the ones in Raleigh are similar to their other locations I've tried). Of course your description of a "small concert" might have an influence on the tone of the evening you are looking to achieve.

Bogart's is a one of a kind. The guys who own it own a few one-off's around NC.

hibernian, 518 west and the rockford right up the road from bogart's are all good. and closer to the lincoln theatre there is tir na nog, and zydeco downtown, a new orleans style eatery.

I've eaten at Bogarts locations in Ohio & Texas ... it must be a different chain. They are great piano bars/restaurants that often have jazz ensembles at night.

Think you are thinking of the Angus Barn on HWY 70. Best steak I ever ate. Top notch service, as well. However.....NOT CHEAP!

I haven't been to the Angus Barn in a long time, but I've had a lot of people tell me that their last trip there was all that great. I hope it's not going down hill.

smooth, i've been to a couple of the chophouses a few times, and they are also excellent. when i was a high school white dude with an afro i took my prom dates to angus barn twice and the chop house once. only problem is that postman was looking for something affordable. dinner for two at either of these places costs me about the same as a good sat. night working at logans... and that's too much for a po man like me.
