Ummm... yeah -- this really hasn't gotten nearly the play that it should. Pretty much every hollywood writer is going to walk away on strike, meaning that there will be no scripted material on television. Some shows probably have a few episodes in the tank already, but others that depend on day-to-day material, like Letterman... gone. In its place -- more crappy reality tv shows.

This is not good, although it did lead to an interesting exchange today at work.

Tory: "Now I'm not going to find out what happens on Grey's Anatomy!"
Me: "The one guy sleeps with the other girl, and there are no consequences afterwards."

Oh, I know. Just didn't feel like looking it up or reading an article when I can get the condensed version here.

The writers want a piece of the DVD market. The production companies don't want to give it to them. The upshot of this whole deal is that very few shows are going to be cancelled in the foreseeable future simply b/c the networks can't replace them with new ones. Most of your favorite returning shows have enough episodes in the can to get through the holidays so they've got some bargaining time before they're forced to go to re-runs. If the strike continues past New Years, expect to see a ton of "reality" programming hitting the airwaves.

My DVR is so backed up right now that the strike will end up being like a digital laxative. It'll be nice to finally get all of that crap watched and out of there.

yeah, I'm pretty excited about a strike. I need to cut back on the TV anyway. That would make it so much easier.
