I worked in an office for 3 plus years now and much of the time I have worked near one of the worst pollution emitting laser printers in the world, THE HP color laserjet 5550 dn.

I just found this out yesterday when a group of Australian Scientists released the results of their study. I will post the study below, but suffice it to say that if you sit near one of these large laser printers you might as well be sitting next to a smoker all day.

Needless to say I was devasted yesterday when I found this out as I already battle a genetic lung disease. My health deteriorated when I worked near one of these and now I realize this may have been why.

If you work near one of these printers (you can find out which ones are the worst on one of these websites) I suggest you get away fast.

I really think this is a serious issue and the government really needs to look into regulating office/indoor air pollution.

I hate my color laser. I spent a bunch of money on a color laser that does duplexing and can handle various paper sizes for my church. I bought it with my own money...It is a Samsung CLP 500.

It did a nice job with b & w and duplexing. But the color worked for about the 1st month, and then developed streaks (and there was plenty of toner...the thing takes like 5 tonor cartridges). Nothing I seemed to do could fix it...so now it sits under my desk unused.

So, if anyone thinks they can fix it and wants it for themselves...PM me and you can come and get it. But bring two people, because I think it weighs about 80 pounds.

I don't do printers. Seriously. They are the worst technology (aside from batteries) out there. Inkjets are a joke, laser printers cost a fortune to maintain and it's cheaper just to order prints online than it is to buy a dye-sub printer. I haven't owned a printer of any kind since my last year in college. I do my best to keep things digital whenever possible, but if I must have a hard copy (which is rare outside of work) I either print it at work or head to FedEx/Kinko's. If I'm printing pictures I just order prints through Flickr and pick them up at Target. It's less trouble than owning a printer, believe it or not.

You should contact an attorney, kel. The same ones who do the asbestos cases. You could be sitting on millions.

Be cause of my pre-existing lung damage, it would be difficult to prove, but hey, it is worth a try.
