LU beat Stetson 4-2 in the second game with Sara Swor hitting the game winning single in the ninth. Stetson is 20-5 and the pitcher that LU beat is 14-1. Great win! I guess they won the first game vs Indiana since LU's record is now 16-6. It was 14-6 going into today. I can't find a score on Indiana's website. I will post it when I can find it.

Three-Run Third Give Lady Flames 3-1 Victory Over Indiana

Liberty plated three runs in the third inning and then rode another strong pitching performance by Terra Lowe to a 3-1 win over Indiana, Thursday afternoon, at the Stetson Softball Field.

The Hoosiers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Mariangee Bogado dropped one down the right field line, while advancing to second as the ball got passed Jessica Leary. Jennilee Huddleston followed with a RBI double just over third base, allowing Bogado to score from second to give Indiana a 1-0 edge.

The Lady Flames answered back in the bottom half of the frame as Jessica Moore slapped one through the right side of the infield, while Dawn Jeffs connected on a double the gap in left center field as the ball rolled to the wall to allow the speedy Moore to score from first.

Two batters later, Ashley Williams lined one off the glove of Huddleston at third base into left field for a double, but Julia Hamilton’s attempted throw to the plate to try and get Jeffs glanced off the glove of Janetta Deaven and rolled into the dugout to allow Williams to score and give Liberty a 3-1 lead.

Liberty than handed the game to starting pitcher Terra Lowe who held the Hoosiers in check the rest of the game as she upped her record to 6-2 on the year by tossing her fourth complete game of the year as she scattered eight hits over seven innings of work.

Bogado suffered the loss as she allowed three runs on five hits in three innings of action to drop her record to 6-4, while striking out eight batters before Megan Roark pitched three scoreless innings of work as she struck out six of the 10 batters she faced.

Moore and Williams led the Lady Flames from the plate as both hitters finished the game 2-for-3 while each scored a run, while Jeffs was 1-for-3 with a RBI double.

Lady Flames Push Winning Streak To Six-Straight Games With Extra Inning Victory Over Stetson

Sarah Swor’s two-RBI single back up the middle in the top of the ninth inning proved to be the difference in Liberty’s 4-2 victory over Stetson, Thursday evening, at the Stetson Softball Field.

Along with Liberty’s 3-1 win over Indiana earlier in the day, the Lady Flames up their record to 16-6 on the season as Liberty has won a season-best six-consecutive games, while the team’s start marks the second best start to a season in school history, ranking just behind the 1996 team that started the year with a 18-4 mark after 22 games.

The loss for Stetson drops the Hatters to 20-5 on the year.

Liberty wasted little time as the Lady Flames jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Jessica Moore led off the game with a double off the wall in right field, while two batters later, Beth Bennett connected on her third home run of the season with a two-run shot over the fence in left field.

Stetson finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning as Teri Lake started the fifth with a single to right field, while a sacrifice bunt by Carrie Cruit advanced her to second with two outs. Liberty looked like they might get out of the inning as lead off batter Shawna Wiggs grounded to short, but Moore’s throw was wide at first allowing pinch runner Amy Peters to score the unearned run and trim the lead to just one run.

The Hatters evened the game in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks in part to a two out rally as Andrea Migliori started with a single through the left side of the infield. After Sarah Swor got Nicole Forbes to fly out to left field, Lindsay Wightman singled back up the middle, while pinch hitter Carolina Rojas knocked in pinch runner Jenny Diaz with a RBI single to center field to knot the score at 2-2.

The score remained the same until the top of the ninth inning as Williams led off the frame for Liberty by drawing a walk, marking starting pitcher Erica Demers’ fifth walk in over 110 innings pitched this year.

Beth Hensley followed with a bunt single in between the pitcher’s mound and first base, while pinch hitter Rachel Love moved Hensley and Williams to second and third, respectively, with a sacrifice bunt to set the stage for Swor who helped out her own cause with a two-RBI base hit back up the middle to drive in two and give Liberty its sixth extra inning victory in seven extra inning games this year.

Swor upped her record to 7-3 on the with her seventh complete game of the year as the junior scattered seven hits, while allowing just an earned run in nine innings of action.

Demers suffered the loss to mark her first defeat of the year as the junior falls to 14-1 on the year with the loss by allowing four runs on eight hits, while striking out nine batters in 8 1/3 innings of work.

Liberty’s eight hits against Stetson were evenly distributed among eight different players, while Bennett and Swor led the Lady Flames as both players drove in two runs.

The Lady Flames return to action tomorrow when they begin competition in the Bethune-Cookman Spring Break Classic as Liberty squares off against Central Connecticut (Noon) and Western Illinois (4 p.m.) to kick off round robin action in the three-day tournament.
