Swor Named Big South Co-Pitcher Of The Week
March 20, 2006 · Lynchburg, Va.

For the second time this year, Liberty’s Sarah Swor has been named the Big South New Balance Pitcher of the Week as she shared the honor with Radford’s Ashley Taylor as announced by the league office today.

Swor (Jr., RHP, Elkview, W.Va.) finished last week with a 3-0 record and a 0.73 ERA, while adding her first save of the year. She posted complete-game victories over Texas A&M Corpus Christi (8.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO), Stetson (9.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 S0) and Iowa State (7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO), while recording the final seven outs to pick up a save over Central Connecticut State.

Highlighting Swor’s week was her victory over Stetson where she handed the Hatters their fifth lost in 25 games, while out dueling Stetson’s Erica Demers who entered the game with a perfect 14-0 record.

On the season, Swor leads the Lady Flames with an 8-3 record and a 1.73 ERA, while adding 58 strikeouts in 81 innings of work.

Swor, who was also named Big South Pitcher of the Week on February 28th, shared this week’s honors with Taylor, who tossed a no-hitter against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, while Coastal Carolina’s Sara Hostetler was named the Big South Choice Hotels Player of the Week.

Swor and the Lady Flames return to the softball diamond on Wednesday when they host in-state opponent James Madison for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch of the afternoon is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Liberty Softball Field.

Swor Named Big South Pitcher Of The Week For The Second Time

For the second time this season, Sarah Swor has been named the Big South’s New Balance Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league today.
Swor (Jr., RHP, Elkview, W.Va.) finished last week with a 1-0 record and a 0.78 ERA. She picked up her third shutout of the season as she scattered five hits and struck out two batters in Liberty’s 3-0 victory over 24th-ranked Virginia Tech on Thursday, while she hit a two-run homer in the 6-5 opening game victory over the Hokies. This marked the second and third time that Liberty has defeated a ranked team in the history of the program.
