Kennesaw State Virginia Tech

KSU comes to town for 3 games (Saturday/Sunday) and Virginia Tech visits Lynchburg Tuesday. We need to sweep KSU and then beat VT, to improve our RPI ranking. Currently we sit at 38 in RPI, KSU is quite a distance below us in RPI,(168), thus we cannot afford a loss to them. VT is #3 in RPI.

With this fixation on RPI, is there ever a game we should lose?

We need good RPI to get at large bid, should we slip up and not win ASUN tournament.

I’m simply asking, how many times do you have to say “we need to win to improve RPI”, before it becomes obvious to you that you’re continually stating the obvious?

We win the first game 8-4. In the spirit of honesty, it was an unimpressive win except for Hudson's power. (2 HR's). We committed 4 physical errors and several more mental errors. For example, the first batter of the game hit a shot down the left field line and there was a play at second. The throw was offline and got by our second baseman. No one was backing up the throw (basic softball defense for right fielder to back it up). Near the end of the game with us up by 4 runs there were a couple of plays where we should have just have made the play at first base (the sure out) and ignored the baserunner(s). Again, basic defensive strategy.

LU was pitching a 3-0 shutout until the KSU batter hit a 2-run dinger in the top of the 7th inning, but LU held on to win 3-2 to sweep the DH with one more game on Sunday.

LU 6 KSU 1, Roupe HR. Wagoner 3 hitless innings in relief. VT comes to town Tuesday. Probably biggest regular season game in LU history
VT will be ranked 2 or 3 I think.

Here we go again. I wonder if Ballcoach knows the world "hyperbole"? :dontgetit
Sources say Ballcoach was out of town joy riding in the Volunteer State while LU softball was playing at home today. :oldhag

We sweep KSU and drop in RPI, but by getting swept, KSU rises in RPI. :dontgetit

RPI is 75% SOS. There's a reason basketball doesn't use it anymore. I don't understand why baseball and softball still use it

Teams that play tough non conference schedules should be rewarded over teams that play cupcakes. This should apply to all sports.

They are for the most part, but you also need to demonstrate you can compete and at least occasionally win against that tougher competition. Just playing them and getting blown out proves nothing.

This is a basic concept that a not insignificant amount of LU fans cannot grasp
This DOES apply to all sports

Tech wins 8-1.

Ballcoach was in Nashville, so he didn't get to watch his 2 favorite teams (besides Bama).

I agree PH, most of these LU fans just can’t grasp it. Back to FCS and Big South in all sports until each team proves they can all win a Conference Championship in the same calendar year. Then try to move up to ASUN together. Once we win every sport in the ASUN in a calendar year - then we should apply to CUSAas a truly worthy addition...

During the most recent expansion, LU should have received an invitation to Big12 or AAC. LU has best athletic program of any non power 5 school, and a better one than some P5 schools.

Is Houston P5?
