I turned it on just as the winning run crossed the plate.

You're welcome :D

Not sure how I feel about JU’s decision to pitch to Autumn. Oh well.

The only advantage walking her would have given them would be to create force plays at 2nd and 3rd, but with Amber coming up, and then Canneto, they were going to have to pitch to a very, very good hitter regardless.

All true, JK, but you missed the part about the pinch runner scoring for the win. Freshman infielder Mary Claire Wilson #7 from Alabama has been a speedy pinch runner for us all season, and she scored the winning run after the Hudson double.

Her parents sit with the Old Men's Club, so we claim her as one of our own!

ballcoach15 wrote: May 12th, 2021, 10:44 pm She's good, but before I'd anoint her queen, I'd have to check who she pitched against. Jacksonville has RPI of 123.

In 2019, we beat her twice.
Saved you the trouble of checking :) The Queen, but since it's softball, I'll refer to her as the Ace, pitched a no-hitter against Boston College, and beat them again the next day, lost 1-0 to #5 Florida, and pitched against several P5 teams. Yes we beat her 2X in 2019, 2-1 and 4-0 with 2 of our runs unearned and Julia DiMartino pitching. I would feel more confident with her pitching today but I heard she may have graduated. While we have a better team than '19 our pitching is not as good as '19, theirs is. Biledoux's ERA is 1.26 and as a team it's 1.90. We need 2-3 runs to win as JU offense is not very strong. I think that will happen, Bishop's will see to it :)
We only needed one!

Hudson has struggled at the plate this season but she has been CLUTCH in big games the last few weeks. Speaks well for her character and ability. And she's pretty good catcher to boot. (and only a freshman!).

Didn’t miss. Denay Griffin would’ve scored on that after the RF bobbled.

Agreed. Amber struggled a little more against their pitcher throughout the day. That would’ve been a reason to rather pitch to her.

Middle 2nd, no score. LU gets nice DP to end inning.

4+6+3 = 2!

Still no score, middle 3rd. LU hitless through first two innings.

Autumn Bishop with a no-doubter over the RF wall. 1-0. Amber then smokes an 0-2 pitch to CF. Canetti gets first hit of tourney on a bunt. Two on, two out.

Sweat with a dart, but KSU 1B makes run-saving stop to end the inning. LU up just 1-0 after 3. Could’ve been a lot more there.

Terrible Call by 1B ump takes a run away from KSU. Runner on second w/ two down, slow bouncer to second, runner beat it. Lead runner was turning and hustling the whole way, touched plate as 1B play was there.

LU needs to keep scoring. A one-run win would lose its luster after that blown call.

Channell reaches on error, then she and Griffin trade spots on a liner down RF line. 2-0. Still no outs.

Runner CS at third. But she was in as poor tag applied. Ball beat her but foot to bag beat tag on knee.

Error, double, CS, single.

Biggest development: LU hitters just teeing off on pitcher. She looks done now.

Reliever gets out of it for KSU. 2-0 after 4.

Two runs on two hits, three LOB in bottom of fifth. 4-0, LU. Ballgame.

Kirby sits for 19 minutes while nine batters went to plate for LU in bottom of fifth. (Well, doesn’t sit; went to pen to stay warm.) Then comes back with a six pitch inning, three up and three down in top 6. KSU down to three outs.

Elzy, KSU reliever with. Rembrandt inning, painting corners on LU batters content to let bats sit on shoulders up 4-0. Two more LOB. Had second and third with one out.

But KSU with just three outs left.

Greep homer in bottom of 7th. No doubt HR to straightaway CF. 4-1 final. Have won 20 of last 21. Kirby’s 12th CG. Setup nicely with Kirby and Keeney available for 1pm start Saturday.

KSU plays JU in a half hour. Winner gets LU, has to beat them twice.

Having a steak, baked potato and Mac and cheese at the present moment. Typically go with salted peanuts in ballpark. Need something mindless for hands and mouth when watching.
