The guys aren't the only ones swinging bats in the spring. You can follow the squad throughout the season and even get the latest on recruiting.

That's not a name hire. A name hire is someone who is actually known in the sport and has had either significant success or a high profile position. Toman was none of those things, and really McKay wasn't either. Gill is the only one under JB who somewhat fits the idea of a name hire.

Don't get me wrong he was a huge get because he was rated the best asst coach in America by BA and by few other people but he's not a known name outside of college baseball. Gill is the biggest name besides Sam to come to Lu. He brought a lot of attention when he was hired.

Btw I heard dot is close to being a done deal.

Exactly, which makes him the OPPOSITE of a ¨name¨hire, ie someone almost noone has heard of, but those who know about these things know what he brought to the table, (that being primarily one of the best recruiters in college baseball.)

Wow, that was awful! And I know bad puns! I hope it works out!

As for a 'name' hire is baseball, unless you go with an ex-MLB player or manager chances are no one outside of college baseball will have heard of them.

I'll say this...it would definitely be a big get for us...having an Olympic gold medalist as your head coach would certainly be an eye opener to prospective recruits. Since PH is still on it, I will also mention that having a nice facility to show them certainly would be helpful as well. My guess is that all of the candidates (Dr Richardson included) have been very much clued into the facility situation before they talk any sort of dotted line (terrible pun btw olldflame).

You can't show them what you don't have. Just two years ago they were showing the recruits 'Ole Worthy' and telling them that is where they will be playing this season, if only 'temporary'. I would suspect, hope, pray, cross my fingers, throw salt over my shoulder, and knock on wood that bringing in some one of this caliber will guarantee the new Softball facility within the next year or 2.

I just wish it was at 'Ole Worthy' cause I still think it has an awesome sound to it. :D

I didnt say that they were showing them something they dont have...I said that they have been clued into the situation. We dont have 100% certainty on here about what 2014 will look like, but I am sure that whatever the situation may be, whoever we hire has already been made fully aware of it by JB so that they arent flying blind when they hit the recruiting trail.

The master plan calls for the softball field to be located where the current LCA softball field is (near baseball & tennis facilities). I noticed that there is new construction on the other side of the street, which appears to be a new softball field. I assume the new construction is where LCA will play, and that Liberty will be able to start construction soonish.
that dirt being moved across from the LCA field is labeled as a parking lot according to the permit.

Recently I posted my thoughts about Dr Dot ( a little before the Buzz) because she is a true ambassador for the sport. To know this I would have to have little more interest in the sport than I have let on about. I have coached at the recreation - club (14u 16u ) - and high school levels. My own daughters idolize Dr Dot. She was one of the first to really get kids ( young ones ) to realize the scholarship potential and use the sport as an ends to a means. That was before the olympics had the sport. The only " paid " jobs were corporate teams in Japan or Europe. One of my girls played in college. She recently met Dr Dot and on my shelf is an autographed softball I plan to pass on to my Grandaughter. Regardless of what
Dr Dot does, I am glad she was introduced to you all. She is an inspirational person and has already had an impact on many people. I include my self in that group -- 8)

Which new field? The proposed one? The refitted Ole Worthy? Because there has been statements that they were going to use Ole Worthy as a transition, then they weren't going to use Ole Worthy at all but wait for the new complex to be ready at some point in the future, then told that they WOULD use Ole Worthy as a transition.
So being specific is very important. :)

At this point you probably won't see much on the record commentary about it after all the rigamarole following the 90.9 interview on youtube where the old baseball stadium to softball field situation was most recently mentioned

But then there was the statement that they were waiting on a new complex prior so they wouldn't use it. Which was prior to that being reversed. :D

In the Summer 2013 Liberty Journal page 23 - a new NCAA regulation softball field is planned.... the facility will include locker rooms and plenty of stands for spectators. it is expected to be started by the end of the year.

Page 21 shows it's location.

new coach = new field. I believe the AD & Chancellor will do what it takes to give the new coach the tools they will need to recruit, starting with a field and all the things that go with it.

The out going staff had a nice list of recruits lined up but I don't know what the status is now. If we can hold on to those commitments and with so few Seniors the Honorable Mr Wetmore left the program with a nice foundation.
