The guys aren't the only ones swinging bats in the spring. You can follow the squad throughout the season and even get the latest on recruiting.

Where people are more concerned about the buffet, not the ball game! :)

They have a buffet in the expensive seats! That's what I have been missing all these years!
We don't even get the peanut guys where I sit! (You know where)

Hopefully in 2 years( be nice if next year) we will have the new stadium in place, that will be an attraction to recruits. LU will be playing catch up, but I think it can be done if the Administration will place as much emphasis on softball as other sports.
As for the past, the Coach and Senior Women's AD should have been pounding on doors of JD and JF, lobbying for the needed improvements. (this may have happened, but I want like to think it did not)

It didn't happen last year because the softball team was promised the baseball complex. Prior to that, if you are to be believed, the staff were more than happy with the current facilities. Really? You really think that the coaching staff was happy with their facilities budgets etc? You really think they didn't bring it up? You really think that by the just saying 'Um, excuse me, I just want to point out that our facilities aren't really great' would have been the magic wand to take care of the issue? If you believe all those things then you have a much higher opinion of your observational skills and lower opinion of the Softball coaches observational skills than warranted.

And how is that the fault of the coaching staff? It's not like they are allowed or even have the capacity to raise the millions of dollars needed for a new facility. Further, even if they did, it's not like they could just put it where ever they wanted because some one somewhere would claim that spot as too valuable for the SB team. You need to get your powers of observation recalibrated !

Ph & ballcoach

Help me out here, does the program have a staff that will fight for the things they need, specifically a good recruiting budget and time to travel and scout? I don't blame anyone but am interested to know what you think, remember I am far away and the CheapSeats are way out there. 8)

You can only fight so much before you get lopped off. They fight for what they can. I am sure they are thrilled the Chancellor now says they WILL be playing in Ole Worthy next year. That will help. The coach has been around forever and his staff is new. They have a lot more funding then they used too.

If anyone is a softball guru, they know the answer.
I think you're probably on to something here.
And it starts with it being chronically under funded over the years and only now being on the right path. How many D1 schools have part time SB head coaches? And we have already discussed facilities. Those would be 2 places to start.

I did not know the LU head coach was part time now. I knew that he was when first given the position.

With right support from the administration, LU softball can be as good (probably better) than women's basketball or volleyball.

He is not now but you are right he used to be. That's the point. And you are right that with the right support WSB could be very competitive. Putting them in Old Worthy next year will be great. As the support grows I think you will see that translate into even more success on the field.

Playing in ole worthy will be a step up from current field, but it will delay growth of program another year.
Need to start on new stadium ASAP, so we can at least show recruits the new field, even if it is under construction.

How will it delay the growth? When they move to Ole Worthy next season it's a step in the right direction. That way come He'll, high water or a 're-prioritization' of assess they are in a place infinitely then their current municipal grade field. Then when you bring recruits in you can show them Ole Worthy, which is better than where they are and not bad in general than say 'We have something even better on the way'. How is that NOT a net positive for the growth of our program? If you could wave a magic wand and Presto have a great complex by next year that would be ideal.but since you can't, Plan B is pretty good.

Softball seems to be playing better lately. Pulled out 2 close ones today. Temple 6-5 and Maine 4-3. The Maine game was particularly dramatic as they scored all 4 runs in the 7th helped out by 2 Maine errors. Not sure if the competition was all that great but anything positive helps. Anyways I hope that they can move ahead on moving into Worthington. Would help with recruting. I think that they should reconfigure the seating a bit. Other than that it would be a big improvement.

They are young for sure. They lost some 2013 recruits with the field curfluffle but have some real talent in the 14 class.
IMO, they all get a pass for 3 reasons. 1) they have been successful in the past, winning the BSC in 2011. 2 and 3) The coach has been there for a very long time and been through the tough times and it would show tremendous loyalty to give him a shot when they at least start playing in Ole Worthy.

I watched both games yesterday against Virginia Tech. First visit of season to LU field. I was impressed with Flames defense. Need a couple more big bats in the lineup.

I could not believe there was no concession stand in operation.
