The guys aren't the only ones swinging bats in the spring. You can follow the squad throughout the season and even get the latest on recruiting.

Weber is a better hitting team than most we have faced. Also probably has more Stolen Bases than anyone on our schedule. We should have advantage with pitching.
Our hitting dropped in Regional Tournament, but I doubt if we will see pitching like Ohio's, this time around.

(Remember, TF said "good pitching will stop good hitting")

Not much power when you consider the gaudy BA. By way of comparison, we have hit 31 HR to theit 21. Looks like they like to play small ball. Our defense will need to be sharp.

#531374 TF was a legendary high school athlete locally in the 1960s and still plays an amazing racquetball game. For decades, he was also closely connected with the Lynchburg Hillcats.

I believe you are referring to Terry Falwell. While it is quite possible he said that at some point, I can assure everyone it did not originate with him. ( I still like the YB version better.) Also, if Terry is indeed the TF ballcoach is referring too, I think I deserve "partial credit" for guessing Tyler.

I can envision Cider typing this as ballcoach ACTUALLY would have: "ballcoach not give partial credit on anything" He hovers over the submit button shaking his head and mutters "I can't do it" before typing in the word "does" and submitting the post. 8)

#531381 :rofl It actually hurt me not to capitalize "ballcoach," but I copied and pasted his message directly.

I figured an old Army guy would believe in the "horseshoes and hand grenades" theory of partial credit, but not our beloved ballcoach. It's all or nothing in his black and white world. :nono

The guy would have 1 infielder, 1 outfielder, a catcher and a first basemen besides himself He would throw a softball between his legs, pitch from 2nd base and all kind of crazy things and still get strikeouts. In his day he was unhittable that's why he didn't need any fielders. The "Globetrotters" of fastpitch softball. Yes, I remember him and saw him pitch many years ago in my hometown.

#531389 He used to be a Miller Lite pitchman in addition to his traveling softball show. Growing up in Ohio, I had no exposure to fastpitch until he came along and started gaining attention.

#531395 Ticket Prices:

12.00 a day, or 40.00 for entire tournament.

Ticket prices don't bother me, but the price of concessions is almost robbery. 3.00 for water, 5.00 for small popcorn, 2.50 for candy bar.

I have managed concession stands before, that charged a dollar for every item, except nachos, (2.00). The booster club made money.
User avatar
By Sly Fox
#531400 I'm assuming the prices are beyond the school's control based on the contract with the concessionaire. Then it is just a matter of what the market will support. Somebody must be buying or the prices will start falling.

#531448 For what it's worth, Longwood made the finals of their ncaa regional. Will need to beat Tenn. twice to go to super regional.

By ballcoach15
#531469 This is not May 21 weather. Seems like March.

As for the team from Farmville, the Tennessee Regional was probably the weakest of the 16 regions. Tennessee eliminated the Farmville team 3-0 today. Hope the have a nice ride home.
JMU got no hit and eliminated by Baylor today. Hope they have nice trip home also.

#531472 Stealing home...seriously??
By ballcoach15
#531473 Designed play. if catcher throws down. runner comes home. runner tries to get in rundown between 1st-2nd. we not too good with that play.

#531475 We still scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th. We were one hit away from tying or winning it.

#531477 Or maybe the pitching was on point...Do you just ignore that good pitching often beats good hitting? A game isn't a single party transaction
By thepostman
#531478 But if their pitching was good that would still mean we didn't hit, right beej?
User avatar

#531479 It would...which is why I said it wasn't a single party transaction. BC's problem is he myopically focuses on Liberty when he "analyzes" the games
By ballcoach15
#531480 I saw every pitch. As coach Richardson said in post game interview we looked at strikes and swung at pitches out of zone. Weber pitcher was good but we made her look better than she is.

#531484 Even the News Advance has gotten involved with Fake News.
The paper said DiMartino started and Cassidy pitched 4 innings in relief.

Very poor coverage as usual of LU softball. It's hard to believe the NA didn't have reporter covering a national tournament in their home town.

For once you have a legit beef on that. Whether they think softball games are important enough to send a reporter or not is up to them, but if they are going to publish results, they need to get their facts straight. Not too hard, just click on the live stats link at libertyflames.com.
By ballcoach15
#531489 I should volunteer to cover the LU softball games for N&A. I don't have a Journalism Degree and I am bad with Grammar, but I do have a "Doctorate in Softball".
I wrote a Letter to the Editor on N&A lack of coverage on BSC Tournament, but they refused to publish it.

In their brief article on yesterday's game, they said Sallie Robertson got a hit. I not know we have a player by that name.

#531514 WSET even sent their weekend sports anchor--with video camera--to cover the tournament.
By Chris Lang
#531586 I can let Damien defend himself, but I can tell you that the N&A isn't paying overtime to cover the softball NIT, and they aren't asking their reporters who get paid virtually nothing to begin with to work a Sunday on their own time. It's reality.
By ballcoach15
#531590 I would just about pay NA to let me cover LU softball as a Free Lancer. Program is growing and needs coverage.
By Chris Lang
#531592 374 people total attended the two games yesterday. Your interest may not match the interest of the general public.
By ballcoach15
#531595 I will admit attendance has been pitiful. Part of that is the result of "poor marketing", in my opinion. People simply do not know about the tournament.

#531600 And the students are GONE for the summer.
By Chris Lang
#531603 Right. I'm not trying to trash softball. If this is an NCAA regional, I'm sure the decision would have been much different. But you only have so many hours in a week to allocate to staffers, and it's getting to be high-school tournament season. The priority will always be there, especially when LU is there putting out a press release on the event. That said, there's merit to the complaint about incorrect information. Sunday night staffing is always skeletal, though.
User avatar
By BJWilliams
#531609 Lang is right...even when I was a freelancer I know that Mr Morris had to prioritize his people and honestly, as has been said already, Softball isn't a sport that people really care about...I mean yeah the schools have their fans, but its not exactly something that has a level of support that would drive the local media to put a ton into covering it. The HS playoff games that involve local teams will get some B-roll and a mention on the 6 and 11 but you won't have live standups or major media investment. The papers might send a few writers to cover games of local interest and give an inch or so in the next day's fishwrap for all the games in general but that really is about it.
User avatar

#531610 It's the NIT. Nobody cares.
User avatar
By BJWilliams
#531612 I mean if it was an NCAA regional as Lang said, and one of the major players was in it, then yeah you might get a nice little bump (especially if ESPN was in town), but Adam's right...at the end of the day, nobody really cares.
By ballcoach15

Local high school sports deserve more coverage than a bottom tier college softball tournament. Locals are much more interested in reading about their neighborhood kids than about some college softball players from out of state playing in a meaningless end of year tournament. We get it. You like softball. You are in a very small minority.
