Ben Martin the new Appomattox County football coach
Appomattox County High School has a new head football coach. Ben Martin, an assistant at Amherst County the past four seasons, takes on his first head coaching job. Martin, a former Heritage and Liberty Flames (web) player, worked with the offensive and defensive linemen at Amherst.

He takes over an Appomattox team that made quite a turnaround last year, going 8-and-2 in the regular season and making the playoffs for the first time in eight years. The previous season, the Raiders had gone 2-and-8.

Ben Martin, who started on the offensive lineman for four years at Liberty University under Sam Rutigliano and coached the Lancers’ offensive line for the past four seasons, replaced Jeremy Haymore, who resigned in late April.
