Does anyone know where Steve Garland ended up? Steve went to Liberty for awhile but I'm not sure if he came back and graduated.Steve Garland was the head trainer for the NY METS for years. He was there when the Mets won the series in '86.
He would come to Cincy with the Mets and i would go over and hang with him at the hotel ..i got a chance to meet Strawberry and Gooden when they were rooks. That was a good time.

he still lives in Lynchburg. Was an Athletic Trainer for a while at Jefferson Forest back in the late 90s, early 00s. Now, does sell athletic equipment and such to area high schools. Great guy.

I knew Steve in school. Little known fact is he played for Eddie Dobson on LU's first soccer team. In addition to his other talents Steve was a gifted actor, who portrayed Peter in the passion play. He started out as assistant trainer and then head trainer for the Lynchburg Mets while finishing school, and worked his way up to the bigs. He's friends with Ray Knight, and I believe if Knight ever got another ML managing gig Steve might get a call, which would be great for him, because if I'm not mistaken, he came up just short of the time he needs to qualify for a MLB pension.

He played soccer until he broke his leg, which got him interested in sports medicine.
He's an old man now.

Steve is actually the Lynchburg Team Sales Specialist (that's his official title, have it in an email from him) for Downtown Athletic and has dealt quite extensively with the teams here at LC. I've worked with him a little to get some winter jackets for the sports info department, which reminds me that I need to get back in contact with him about that.
He seems like a pretty good guy and does his job pretty well from what I little interaction I have had with him. They do good business over there, and you can get some pretty good prices on stuff, although the great prices could be part of some agreement or something with LC, but I don't know.
