Personally I did not recognize Vernon but his voice is still the same. Looks like he has been up to some good lately.
Looks like A Pierre is on the board of Vernon's group.

Almost embarressed to admit this one, but in the spirit of honesty here on the board I will.
"some of the guys" on our hall used to do this horrendous imitation of him- gravely voice and all- "hello, I'm cancer-throat Vernon Brewer"
in retrospect- terrible. but at the time, we found it hilarious, no concept of mortality I suppose. But, by all accounts- a wonderful man. And I'm sure he could care less what a bunch of loser idiot frosh thought of him back in 1988. He's still going strong!

I agree PA.
But "in the spirit of honesty", the way we were constantly clubbed over the head with the Vernon Brewer Story during my time there, you would've thought it was him, not Moses, that brought the Ten Commandments down from the Mount.

Wickedly true, Big -e-. Followed shortly thereafter by a "heartwrenching" song by Gary Aldrich.

The only thing worse were those singing groups w/ the matching sport coats, khaki pants and red ties. I don't remember the names, there were 2 of them- one was the "first tier" that toured the country, the other was the JV version who hung around campus and annoyed people w/ their blonde hair and Ipana toothpaste smiles.

With all due respect, I think he's a turd. He spoke in convo the day after 9/11, didn't address the tragedy at all (Heaven forbid he should deviate from the outline of his one sermon) until the very end, when he said "ohhh, if only we (Christians) had the same religious fervor as the terrorists".
Meanwhile, I'm sitting in convo, wondering if friends of mine, and their families, got out of the Twin Towers, or had to make the decision to A) be burned alive or B) skydive 800 feet onto the pavement.
Sorry.
