The gathering place for LU alumni to wax nostalgic about their glory days and tell current students how easy they have it. Old hags & bright-eyed and bushytailed recent grads both welcome.

Long before he founded dcTalk with Michael Tait, Toby Mac was an LU student athlete:

Here he is working up a funky groove on the 16th Green

Somehow I doubt he uses these on his Goattee website. 8)

I was their RA and can attest - not gay. Except for those in the picture that lived off campus including Toby, buy we spent many a night at the Hardees studying for an MBA course together.

I disagree. I love dc Talk. They completely changed their style over the years as they grew up but I loved em. I said one time that they were the original, and only good, rap-core band. I personally don't like Toby's solo stuff but I'm not a rap fan. It's good music, I'm just not a huge rap fan. I like Michael's solo stuff, and the little I've heard of Kevin's has been good. Kevin covered Help Me Ronda and it was awesome.

are you kidding??? DCT WAS AWESOME. i wish the guys had not done solo stuff, b/c it is just OK. Toby is really cool, and certainly not gay. you should chill out with that kind of talk mallet. his younger sister kerri and i were good friends at LU , and toby is as nice and a down to earth guy as you will ever meet.

dc talk i consider a scar on the face of the university....

you guys should get out there and pick up some real music...

they changed to whatever was "cool" at that time...and then didn't do it very well... it was a big hit in the christian contemporary world but that was at a time when there really wasn't much going for that music industry either....al dennis and geoff moore and the distance were popular back then, remember?

This is random but the guy left of Toby is John Havill. He was my high school teacher and friend of mine. Now he is a missionary in Peru. And he likes DCT.

Mr. Pickering let us do a video for the LU Lacrosse team in the School of Life Long Learning Studios back in 87. It had Toby and another Guy singing with the Lacrosse team in the background. Toby knew several of the Lacrosse Guys and Scott Evans who played ball with us.

Michael Tate lived on my Floor his Freshman Year so I got to know him a little. I also knew his Sister Linda who died of Cancer a couple of years ago. Linda was working with the Youth for Christ Ministrey in Kansas City the summer of 85 and I was out there in KC on a internship. She had an awesome voice and had several Gospel records. Michael was also good friends with another LU Alumni that I'm close too Danny Morano. Morano is now a Business Man and lives in Germany.

It sure would be nice to see Toby and break out that old Video of the LU Lacrosse Team.

Laxman,

Linda Tait passed away? I was just watching a tribute to her work on a gospel channel but the show was a few years old. I used to know her pretty well too of course along with Mike and Toby. I had no idea about the Cancer as I have not talked to Mike in a while and Toby has never mentioned it to me. That is really sad news.

That's awful. Did not know that. I was a snotty nosed freshman when she was an upperclassman. Very classy, always with a smile and went out of her way to say hi and talk when passing.

As far as I know, Lynda Tait Randle is still alive and well. She travels with Bill Gaither and his Homecoming tours.

Huh-huh Heaven!
Huh-huh Huh-huh Heaven-huh!
Huh-HEAVENBOUNNNNND!

Can't hate on 'em. As a member of the first freshman class of the newly named Liberty University; a "$5000 schaolarship" grant baby, these were the only lyrics that were allowed to sung on-campus without getting demerits for it!!!! SCAR and my boy, Monster will back me up on that, no question....

Big-e- ain't kidding. You couldn't say diddly without getting a cross look. It was because diddly was a substitute for another word and everyone knew what the other word was. No joke.

At one point in my second year I was officially kicked out of school for the following:

Didn't make my bed- 2 demerits
Didn't take out the trash on a Thursday- 2 demerits
Late for midnight curfew (12:02 at guardshack)- 2 demerits
RAT told me hair was too long an hour after RA approved it- 2 demerits
Disrespect to a RAT who was 3 years younger than I was for not giving him my ID- 4 demerits
Disrespect with Dorm Supervisor when I told him that particular RAT "sucked"- 4 demerits

Totalling 16 and $1000 fine and an "Adios, thanks for coming out." I took my case to a Dean and every demerit was gone in about 30 minutes. He thought it was pretty funny.

About a week later another dorm supervisor demanded my ID when I launched a snowball over her head when she came out and yelled at us all to stop throwing snowballs. Of course, this was at about 5pm. The campus wide snowball fight had been going on since sunrise. She told me I was out of there. For throwing a snowball over her head I was going to be expelled. When Large Marge stormed back into her room I was suddenly a hero to all around. I left voluntarily 3 weeks later at the semester. She never knew my name or had my ID. I refused to give either to her.

Things were a bit stuffy in those days. I hope it's changed a bit since then.

On the same thread as my last post I would love to see just how much has changed in the last 15 years. Anyone interested in doing a comparison? Has this already been done elsewhere on the site? Please help E and I out.

Its a perfectly cool subject, M35. But why not start a new thread and leave this one to Toby Mac?

My son is taking a Young Actors Workshop from a woman in CT (found out abt. it through homeshool group); she said she dated Toby Mac. I found a pic. of him in the 1987 yr.bk.- thought he was a youngun' but I guess not (easy to figure since I was there 1985-1990). My husband said something to the effect of {wow he's old} to which I replied he'd better be careful; besides, my husband is more than a decade older than me-that's another thread!!!
