Safety- service director named

PORT CLINTON -- Starting Monday, the city will have a new safety-service director.

Port Clinton Mayor Debbie Hymore-Tester announced Wednesday she has selected Robert Berner, the former mayor and safety director of the city of Avon Lake, to fill the position.

The new safety-service director served Avon Lake as mayor and safety director from 2001 to 2007 but was not re-elected mayor in November. He formerly worked for two mortgage companies, most recently as a general manager and managing partner for Pinnacle Residential Services.

Berner received a Bachelor of Science degree from Liberty University and did undergraduate studies at the Ohio State University College of Engineering.
